User:Femke/2024 admin election notes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We've got an amazing 35 editors signed up for the election. This means it's a challenge to give each candidate enough attention. I'm collecting these elections notes to make it easier for myself and others to find key information on candidates. My personal RfA criteria focus on showing clue and being civil/kind, and these metrics are of course only part of the equation.

Given the spirit of the elections, I won't say who I will be supporting. That said, I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of candidates, given the large numbers here. I've tallied my "Probablies", "Maybes" and "Don't supports", and my "Probablies" group is largest, followed by the "Maybies". We seem to be attracting different types of candidates than at normal RfAs, for instance those mostly active on different projects who could use the tools for cross-wiki issues, or those with some gaps in editing due to real life.

This is a fork from User:Novem Linguae/Essays/2024 administrator election notes. Other guides will be listed at the bottom.

If you see mistakes, feel free to correct them. If you want to help fill the table out, especially the column on whether an AN(I) discussion was started about the editor, chime in. I'd like to look at Edit summary usage, and add a note in misc if this falls under 90% in the last ~6 months. For those candidates who want to help out with deletion tasks, I'd like to add AfD/CSD stats if time allows.

Notes

[edit]
  1. ^ I've looked at Wikipedia:Editing restrictions and Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement log
  2. ^ I've also checked all open and closed CCI cases. None of the editors have a case against them under their current name.
  3. ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message.
  4. ^ An IP editor started a discussion after poorly sourced text was reverted, which led AD to reply curteously.
  5. ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message. Also see evidence of snappy edit summaries (1, 2).
  6. ^ Blocked in 2023 for 3RR, but admin unblocked saying it was an erroneous block.
  7. ^ Proposal to topic ban from J.K. Rowling, after introducing text-source integrity issues (pluralize opposition, which was one person f.i.). ANI disagreement on 2020 Irish general election, where multiple editors objected to conflict resolution behaviour.
  8. ^ Remained calm and kind when an IP editor made wild accusations. Generally kind but firm in discussions
  9. ^ Misunderstanding of the copyright exception to 3RR (did not reach 3RR even with these reverts).
  10. ^ Too difficult to search, given loads of false positives
  11. ^ Odd comment about IPs not being allowed to make editorial decisions. Hawkeye disengaged with ANI thread before answering what was meant. I've not looked at COIN archives for other candidates, but I'm aware of this discussion where it took a while to get full clarification from Hawkeye.
  12. ^ An ANI was starting about correct deletion tagging and Waqar defended himself.
  13. ^ States 1 GA on userpage. Wrote 3.2% of Clifton Suspension Bridge. No edits to the GA review page.
  14. ^ Reacted to retaliatory editing by described contributions of other as "stupid stuff" (or other way around, as I didn't look at deleted edits)
  15. ^ Once, an IP got blocked for block evasion after "reporting" Pbritti.
  16. ^ IP editor didn't like being asked for more sources. Kind response from Peaceray.
  17. ^ 5% authorship of an old GA
  18. ^ Examples (1, 2) of not archiving a reasonable message.
  19. ^ Has a block but it is ancient history. 2007.
  20. ^ Two threads from before 2010, one related to the 3RR block
  21. ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message. Edit summary was "rewritten".
  22. ^ Blocked a long time ago. 2018. Successfully appealed within 2 hours. Topic banned in 2018, eventually repealed.
  23. ^ Editing in contentious topic (Pakistan), so difficult to avoid AN(I) completely. Some unwise editing was noted in 2018, in 2024 there was a discussion about POV editing, where at least one mistake was noted from SIIT. Further feedback received and accepted on editing in 2024 at ANI after complaints.
  24. ^ One block for outing >5 years ago, as explained in nomination statement. Lesson learned, quickly unblocked
  25. ^ A user warned for NPA opened an thread on S.p, calling this harassment.
  26. ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message.
  27. ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message.
  28. ^ An 2011 incident where Valenciano made an unfortunate remark on Hispanics, and apologised when it was pointed out calmly.
  29. ^ Not all the creations are fully cited. For instance Point of use water filter, pressure sewer, reservoir safety contain uncited content
  30. ^ Ancient sockpuppetry (2006)
  31. ^ New editor opened an ANI thread after being warned by Velella for disruptive editing. Closed before Velella could reply.
  32. ^ Blocked in 2021. Reversed 30 minutes later.
