Particle motion in an ocean wave at deep (A) and shallow (B) depths. Particle motion in deep water is circular and disappears before reaching the ocean floor. Particle motion in shallow water is more of an elliptical shape that flattens at deeper depths. 1) Wave's progression. 2) Wave crest. 3) Wave trough.
