Lesson 4 - dont understand the following There are two major ways to include custom messages, <tt>'''<nowiki>{{Your message}} and {{subst:Your message}}. {{subst:Your message}} makes a copy of the message text and places it where you put the tag after you save an article (substitution).</nowiki>
Lession 5 - what does the prose tool do? Have noted the warning Code that you insert on this page could contain malicious content capable of compromising your account. If you are unsure whether code you are adding to this page is safe, you can ask at the appropriate village pump. If this is a .js page, the code will be executed when previewing the page. - Lesson 4 - Alright - for templates, transcluding,
{{cleanup}}
, would leave the code as{{cleanup}}
after saving the page. However, if you substituted, the{{subst:cleanup}}
you added to the page would be replaced by whatever the template had in it.
- For example, this is subsitituted:
This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Please improve this article if you can. |
- ...and this is not substituted:
This user page may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. No cleanup reason has been specified. Please help improve this user page if you can; the talk page may contain suggestions. |
- You can see the difference by clicking edit.
- I am having trouble understanding this for a couple of reasons.
- (1) I dont under the function - can you show me a real example and explain the function further
- (2) it is difficult to see the important differences while looking at the edit page because I cant distinguish the code written to show the example and the code written to display the page.
- (3) doesnt seem like a important feature?
- I am having trouble understanding this for a couple of reasons.
(reset) This concept for templates is very important. For templates like {{cleanup}}, you do not substitute it so it may be easily removed and it will cause the article to fall into . However, for warning templates such as {{uw-vand1}} you need to substitute them. Also, substituting a template leaves it as is, and will not be updated if the template is changed. Transcluding a template causes the template to be updated when the template is edited; this is why high-risk templates such as {{purge}} are protected, because an edit to one would cause all articles containing {{purge}} to be updated, using up a lot of server time. Hope that makes sense. -download | sign! 18:43, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- got it!
I didnt get that the tags are subject to editing
Will suggest an improvement to your lesson - for your consideration
This stupid addition to wikipedia may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's very quality standards. Please improve this article if you dare...go on I dare you to. |
- Lesson 5 - As long as scripts are made by a trusted user and clearly have a function, they are usually safe. For example, my prose tool adds a tab that says "prose" in the edit menu; if you click on it you automatically add {{prose}} to the article. messages here?
hi thanks for your offer.
have been writing the early psychosis page since December...and then directing other pages to it...and the odd edits
did my first constructive delete of a section a few days ago Talk:Treatment of schizophrenia
my current project is to write a massive restructure of treatment of schizophrenia with these new sections. Have alerted the talk page to warn others. some of the new sections are simply need cut and paste from the current article, but others will need new content - and this might take time to write. Earlypsychosis (talk) 09:15, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Looks like you've been doing really well. Seems like you're interested in making significant contributions; I usually make minor edits, such as tagging and reverting vandalism. Well, you might as well learn how to cite the different types of references to make them go into the {{reflist}} in the "References" section automatically. -download | sign! 18:23, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Alright; just saw your edits and it looks like you're doing really well at citing. What I would greatly recommend is including an informative edit summary on every one of your edits, even those to your userpage. This not only makes you seem like a good editor, it prevents your edits (especially if you remove content) from looking like vandalism. -download | sign! 18:27, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

suggestion for lesson rewrite
[edit]Lesson 4: Templates
Templates often look like text boxes with a different background color from that of normal text. They are in the template namespace, i.e. they are defined in pages with "Template:" in front of the name.
For example, consider the template Template:Cleanup (follow the link to see the page where it can be edited). To insert the template's content into an article, type {{cleanup}} in the wiki page ( {{cleanup}} is called a template tag ). Every article with that tag in it will display the following text:
This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Please improve this article if you can.
This technique is commonly known as transclusion ?????. Templates can also include calculated and substituted elements, as well as parameters, allowing for complex usage. For a table of some useful templates, see Wikipedia:Template messages. For detailed templating documentation see m:Help:Template.
There are two major ways to include these templates, e.g. for the cleanup tag {{cleanup}} and {{subst:cleanup}}. {{subst:cleanup}} inserts a full makes a copy of the template code.
the reason for this is that the template can be changed or updated, whereas beacause the {{subs:cleanup}} has inserted the full code, you do not need to worry if the tag is update
Now try substituting {{cleanup}} at the sandbox. Afterwards, see the difference by editing the sandbox again. For more information, see Wikipedia:Template namespace.
etc etc
a page that uses it if you use {{cleanup}}
. As a guideline, short temporary messages that will be removed soon should be copied using subst (which has the advantage of showing the message in the wiki source), and standard notices that might remain on a page for months or forever should be transcluded for easy updating. (You should not use {{cleanup}}
for a message which contains any links which may change in the future. This method doesn't refresh "What links here" unless every article containing the {{cleanup}}
gets changed after the modification of the link in the message.)
If you need to edit the template message individually after you put it on your page, use subst. If you don't need to edit it, and would rather the message is automatically updated along with changes made to the template, don't use subst.
Lesson 5: User Scripts
A user script is a piece of JavaScript code executed on Wikipedia pages. Scripts can make navigation easier and simplify common maintenance tasks. To import a user script, add the code to your monobook.js.
For more information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts. Now try importing my prose tool to your monobook.js.
Lesson 6:Searching for wikipedia related topics
in the search box any search with WP: will direct the search to articles on how to edit wikipedia and articles about wiki
Lesson 7:transcluding
how do you learn what the code does, other than guessing or using sandbox i.e. my guess is that </div> is a line, but how could I have search for it
was this ok?
- Actually, </div> ends a </div>. A line is done by adding ----. To learn about codes, you could always go to Wikipedia:Formatting and see if there's anything you're interested there. I'll try to update my adoptee's classroom later. Thanks! -download | sign! 03:03, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No; to add the article to the category, you must either place a template that adds it to the category or add it yourself. To add the article to the category, simply place [[Category:American psychiatrists]] at the bottom of the page. -download | sign! 03:57, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

how do you add a new section tab at the top of a page? Earlypsychosis (talk) 23:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The "new section" tab only appears on talk pages. As this is not a talk page, it does not appear normally. However, there may be a script that you can add to your monobook.js that displays one on non-talk pages. (It only shows for you though in that case.) -download | sign! 23:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

what should happen to User talk:203.24.19.228 and the IP that did this [5] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Earlypsychosis (talk • contribs) 07:32, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- If you're using Lupin's Anti-vandal tool, be sure to only warn the user/IP if you reverted it. If someone else reverted it, chances are they gave the user a warning also. -download | sign! 01:31, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- For 203.24.19.228, you could consider reporting it to WP:AIV, as it has a long history of vandalism. However, 211.30.53.87 has only received one warning and should not be reported. -download | sign! 01:35, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit: [6]. You undid one of the IP's edits, but not both of them. Therefore, the "SOmethin" was left on the page. To solve this, I would recommend reading a way of reverting to an older revision at WP:Reverting. You could also ask to have rollback priviliges granted.
Yes - good point. Actually the article was seriously missing a whole section due to by incomplete undoing. Have now fixed. Also see Capital punishment in the United Kingdom. where do you find article on comment on for deletion? As you can see, my interests are narrowed to pscyhology and mental health. Earlypsychosis (talk) 01:07, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- If you want to comment on the article's deletion, simply edit the page and voice your opinion, using bullet points and indents as necessary. It currently isn't possible to narrow down the articles for deletion to a certain subject, but you might want to check with your WikiProject. -download | sign! 02:03, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For instance, most mainstream health professionals reject most of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) methods; however, the articles about them are usually written and maintained by people who are CAM enthusiasts or even CAM practitioners. Although the books on CAM topics are not considered reliable by vast majority of health professionals, they are used as reliable and verifiable sources on Wikipedia because the majority of editors (or the most diligent editors) do consider them reliable. As a result, those articles contain very much of the CAM POV, whereas in the real world, the mainstream POV is skeptical towards CAM. on Wikipedia:Wikipedia is a chatroom Earlypsychosis (talk) 10:30, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
