- Places I have visited (not just in passing, and not for work)
Europe
[edit]England
[edit]Wales
[edit]Scotland
[edit]- Dumfries
- Lockerbie - Visited a few years before the dreadful plane incident.
Sweden
[edit]Spain (sort of)
[edit]France
[edit]- Marcilhac-sur-Célé - A wonderful area, the river cuts a 100 metres deep into the limestone plateau and one often drives 2 metres away from steep cliffs. Watch out for deer, they are not so vehicle wary - though if hit, even by a motorbike, they do taste nice (I am sure)!
- Paris Hmmm... not much to say, didn't really like it that much and is the only place I have been to where someone has tried to clone my debit card.
- Quimperle - Small village where I met a lovely old man who had "been saved by your ancestors" during WWII. Best cakes I ever had, cheese and wine were ridiculously cheap, and a bottle of home made scrumpy from a French farm was 14p for 1 litre (1991).
- Carnac stones - one of my most interesting days. Threw caution to the wind and walked down the rows taking photos every 100m. Even told some German tourists to get off the formation they had climbed onto to have their picnic.
Italy
[edit]The Netherlands
[edit]Eire
[edit]- Mallow
- Killarney
- Dingle Bay When I was a little boy my parents painted my room "Sea Spray", as the tin described it. It was a sort of light turquoise-blue and nothing like any sea or ocean I had seen. When I went to Dingle bay as a young man I discovered that it was real.
America
[edit]USA
[edit]- New York
- Monsey
- Matamoras, Pennsylvania Best Fireworks shop ever.
Longest land journeys
[edit]- Marcilhac-sur-Cele to Amsterdam in 26 hours
- Cycling round southern Eire for 6 days. Averaged 42.4 miles a day (including sightseeing!) with my partner of the time.
- Norwich-Pembroke-Norwich-Pembroke in 32 hours. Had to deliver two products but deadlines were short. Second one was being processed on the PCs while I delivered the first. Drank a lot of coffee ... luckily no speeding tickets!
