I am writer, a researcher in evolutionary biology, a emergency physician, and a social entrepreneur.
My most recent book, Kings, Conquerors, Psychopaths: From Alexander to Hitler to the Corporation has received 14 awards, and kudos from major authors & scholars.
I also publish the blog Bookscrounger.com, where I have written posts introducing my next book, an application of evolutionary ideas to non-biochemical systems, Darwin, Dada, Dalí, Duke, & Devadevàya.
Some years back, in 1989, I created the Acadiana Educational Endowment, believed to be the first comprehensive foundation for public education. Among our many efforts, in 2005 we began a dialogue with the Wikipedia administration about collaborating on free textbooks for schools, and in July of 2006 we hosted the acting CEO and the Chief Administrative Assistant for Wikipedia for two days of talks in Lafayette, Louisiana. Those discussions influenced the development of Wikibooks and Wikiversity.
The AEE built three large websites: CajunFun.com, one of the earliest cultural and event calendars on the web; booksXYZ.com, which was the only large non-profit Internet bookstore, at its height listing over 3,000,000 titles and directly selling over 250,000; and ultoday.com, an eZine which covered the University of Louisiana, and was apparently the only independent media comprehensively covering any university anywhere. The recession forced us to suspend all of our activities, including updating those websites.
