[edit]Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati (born 14 March 1971)..[1] is a spiritual leader and motivational speaker, based at Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh, on the banks of the River Ganges in the lap of the Himalayas, India.

She is the author of the memoirs, Hollywood to the Himalayas: A Journey of Healing and Transformation and By God's Grace as well as the book of life wisdom, Come Home to Yourself[2].
She has received several awards for her humanitarian work, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from U.S. President Joe Biden[3]
Life
[edit]Sadhviji grew up in Lost Angeles, California, and graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She then continued her studies at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (PGSP) and the University for Integrative Learning. She earned a PhD in Pediatric Neuropsychology[4]
She was in the midst of her PhD in September, 1996 when she traveled to India on what she thought would be a short vacation and which turned out to be a life transforming experience. She returned to America in December, 1996, after spending 3 months in Rishikesh (Himalayas), India at Parmarth Niketan Ashram. She completed the winter semester of her PhD program and then moved to live permanently at Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh in April 1997. She was officially ordained into the order of Sanyas [5](monastic vows) by her guru His Holiness Swami Chidanand Saraswati on June 11, 2000 on the sacred holiday of Ganga Dusshera.
At Parmarth Niketan, where she lives, she teaches meditation, leads daily satsang, gives spiritual discourses, provides counseling and oversees myriad charitable and humanitarian projects and activities[6]
Work
[edit]Sadhviji is the International Director of Parmarth Niketan, the President of the Divine Shakti Foundation, a charitable organization bringing education, vocational training, upliftment and empowerment programs to women and children in India.[7]
She is the Secretary-General of the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA), the world’s first alliance of international faith leaders working for water, sanitation and hygiene. GIWA was launched at UNICEF headquarters during the United Nations’ General Assembly; the launch was co-sponsored by the Governments of the United States and the Netherlands.
She is also the Director of the annual International Yoga Festival, a world-famous event which draws thousands of people from more than 100 countries to the banks of the Ganges.
She serves on the United Nations Advisory Council on Religion and on the steering committees of the International Partnership for Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD) and the Moral Imperative to End Extreme Poverty, a campaign by the United Nations and World Bank.
Sadhviji was also the Managing Editor of the historic 11-volume Encyclopedia of Hinduism, compiled by India Heritage Research Foundation.[8]

- Environmental Warrior Recognition (2018) Named at the International Environmental Summit by Sparsh Ganga Abhiyaan, Namami Gange, and the Ministry of Environment for championing environmental protection.[14]

- Yoga Ratna Diamond of Yoga Award (2016) Presented by Shwaasa Trust, in association with the Government of Karnataka, Olympic Association of Karnataka & All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP), recognizing her dedication to Indian spiritual-cultural values.[16]
