Description of the contribution

[edit]

I tried to improve the articles concerning my territory, Montanera. It is a very small village, so the literature was not so wide, but I tried my best.

I am User:Bens198 and https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utente:Bens198.

Contribution to an article regarding the town

[edit]

I worked on https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montanera, I added three sections: Storia, Eventi and Monumenti e Luoghi di interesse. Moreover, I also updated the number of the population. All these modifications have been made always providing the source I was using. I have also added a photo of a Chapel and two panoramic views of Montanera. And I have translated the sections History and Event to the English version of Montanera, updating also here the number of inhabitants.

Contribution to an article regarding a heritage site

[edit]

My aim was to create a new article about "Cappella dell'Assunta", a chapel which is beloved and quite interesting situated in Montanera. It is available at my sandbox https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utente:Bens198/Sandbox in Italian and User:Bens198/sandbox in English. In the Italian version I have also added the "Edificio religioso" template, copying it from the featured article about the Colleoni Church in Bergamo.

Discussions

[edit]

I added sentences on each article that I have contributed to, explaining my work and trying to behave in a freindly manner, I also invited the other users to contact me if they ever had any doubts or questions, always adding my signature. I have not interacted with anybody until now.

Openstreetmap

[edit]

I added the Cappella dell'Assunta on Openstreetmap, you can see it at https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Bens198.

Citations and use of sources

[edit]

We were told the importance of relevant and trustworthy sources, so I committed in order to find such sources. I tried to use them in a correct way, by rewriting the sentences and summarizing the topic and porviding the exact number of pages from which I took the inspiration. I had some paper documents but also a lot of information has been taken from the internet, e.g. the institutional website of the municipality or some articles on newspapers published in the past few years. Also thematic websites were used, especially to gather information concerning the chapel.

Other contributions

[edit]

I also contributed to the article https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Filippi_(operatore_Lumi%C3%A8re), because he was related to my village since he was born in Montanera. I have just added some information concerning his life and I translated the information concerning his life to English, you can find it here User:Bens198/sandbox1.

Involvement of stakeholders

[edit]

I kindly asked the townhall if they could give me some information relating the history of the village and the chapel. Unfortunately, there is not so much literature about these sites, so I tried to exploit in the best way possible the sources I had. The Mayor allowed me to publish the photo concerning the monument you can find on the Montanera article and also the priest gave me the authorisation for uploading the pictures depicting the chapels. I also collaborated with a woman resident in Montanera, which is a volunteering tourist guide who provided me with some details on the Chapel, allowing a deeper description of the interior of the little church.

The User:Akaineko21 (Martina Caccia) was very helpful and very patient with me, she helped me understand better the requirements (authorisations for pictures and so), the steps to be followed of this project and she helped me when I had technical doubts. When she was contributing to Wikipedia I also tried to assist her, so we can say we collaborated helping each other.

Practical information on the assignment

[edit]

I have to say I was a bit lost at the beginning and I also felt worried about editing a Wikipedia article, since it is something powerful that everybody uses in the daily life. Hovewer, at the end it is very rewarding and satisfactory seeing my contributions publicly visible on the pages. I think this project enhanced a lot of unknown and underestimated cities and heritage sites, especially the latter, which pass usually unnoticed by the residents of small towns. I also told the Town Hall that now that I know how to edit a Wikipedia article, I could help them modifying the articles concerning our territory. I also offered other residents to show them how Wikipedia works, in order to expand the presence of our little village online, hopefully increasing its visibility and enhancing it.
