This user account is a bot operated by Smith609 (talk). It is used to make repetitive automated or semi-automated edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually, in accordance with the bot policy. This bot does not yet have the approval of the community, or approval has been withdrawn or expired, and therefore shouldn't be making edits that appear to be unassisted except in the operator's or its own user and user talk space. Status
[edit]The bot has created around 6000 articles about algae, using data generously provided by AlgaeBase. It's now taking a break until a data source for fungi or bacteria can be found.
If any systematic maintenance is necessary to algal pages, and could be performed by this bot, please notify User:Smith609.

Function Details: The bot will create a short stub with taxobox on any organism where reliable taxonomic data can be acquired, much as User:Polbot did for the animals and plants. This database is an example of a good place for the bot to start. Of course, it will only acquire data from sites that permit automated access. I for one will find it very useful to be able to find the affinities and synonyms of a given genus without the excessive googling it currently takes! When revisions make reclassifications necessary, the bot will also amend taxoboxes appropriately, on request.
