Creation

Class rating

This template currently includes an optional "class-rating". Is this being used anywhere, or can we remove it (there will never be a stub-rated or a Featured Disambig page...) to stop any confusion?

Echoing the above request, can an admin alter the text for the MAIN_TEXT parameter? There is currently no link to the relevant project, and the text mislabels disambiguation pages as articles. I prefer the previous wording for MAIN_TEXT:

Isn't

a little downbeat, even if the untagged backlog were known to be growing? How about -- since WP is always WiP --

Error

{{editprotected}} In this template, when it is used on a template's talk page (see Template talk:Disambig), when it says to edit the attached page, it links to an article (i.e. it doesn't including the Template: namespace at the beginning of the link). Class= (again)

One good reason for using the "|class=" parameter is to set it to "|class=Dab". Without this, the utility to display an assessment of an article's quality as part of the page header for each article cannot recognise dab pages . (The utility can be enabled by going to my preferences and selecting the Gadget tab). Can we have "|class=" back, please -Arb. (talk) 19:57, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

The class parameter would be completely redundant in this banner, and I can't support adding it just to benefit an unrelated gadget. What you really need is a change in the behavior of the gadget itself. The gadget already recognises {{SIA}} (see Khoro (rural locality)); what it needs is a change to make it recognise {{Disambig}}. That's something you should take up with whoever created or maintains the gadget, though. PC78 (talk) 00:38, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

It would definitely be redundant. Disambiguation pages actually work best for the script as they are now: Since it can identify a page from the disambiguation template alone, there's no need to waste resources requesting and parsing the talk page in those cases; likewise for set index articles, redirects, and articles with no talk page. (The HTTP request for the talk page accounts for most of the time the script takes to run.) If it doesn't seem to be recognizing a particular disambiguation page, it's either a bug or a browser issue. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 16:15, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

As far as I can tell the gadget isn't working properly. At Atlas (disambiguation) (for example) I'm getting "An unassessed article from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". Cleanup Parameter

Hi all, what thoughts do you have about adding a cleanup parameter to this project banner? "Cleanup=yes", for example, would add the page to Category:Disambiguation pages needing cleanup, as well as display some sort of message box, under the banner, such as this one:

Okay, I was unaware of {{disambig-cleanup}}. Still, might it be a replacement for {{disambig-cleanup}}? It unclutters the disambiguation page, while gives more function to this template. Also, it seems like Category:Disambiguation pages in need of cleanup is currently underused. It would be similar to {{WikiProject Biography}}'s "attention" parameter. Your thoughts? {{disambig-cleanup}} is widely used by this project's participants, and Category:Disambiguation pages in need of cleanup is actively patrolled - It varies in size from 30 entries to 200 entries, in any given month. It's had a backlog tag added and removed a few times this year [1].

Your idea/intent was good, but we already have a workflow that encompasses cleanup, with the existing templates. :)

Perhaps instead, we should make the line at Template:Disambig/doc that mentions the existing cleanup template, more noticeable? Or anywhere else you might have looked-but-not-found the existing template? -- Quiddity (talk) 00:49, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

There is a version in the sandbox that would add the main cat for the tagged talk pgs of the project, and remove the unneeded "key" for the category parameter. The reason I'm requesting the main cat option is to be able to compare the pgs in Category:All disambiguation pages with the talk pgs in Category:WikiProject Disambiguation pages. Would be useful to add the 'needs-attention' parameter

Right now, adding this template to Talk pages is failing to "assessment classify" the related articles as "Disambig" pages – is there a way to fix this, so this template starts correctly "assessing" articles as "Disambig" pages?... Thanks. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 15:52, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

@Enterprisey: Take a look at my articles created page – the following pages are all "unknown" classification, rather than "Disambig", even though this template is at their Talk pages: Going Straight (disambiguation), Ardhangini, Matthew Underwood, A Wrinkle in Time (disambiguation). Contrast that with Burke's Law and Holding the Baby which are correctly "classified" as Disambig. pages by the {{WikiProject Television}} banner template. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 01:51, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

It doesn't appear on the page, but in the various lists and reports that classify articles by status (stub, Start, C, FA, etc.). It seems to come down to the fact that the banner templates of other projects can detect a dab page and hence have it classify as "Disambig", while the banner template of the Disambig project itself apparently doesn't classify articles at all, and hence pages tagged by it appear in the various reports as "Unknown". – Uanfala (talk) 17:10, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Ah, thanks, misread IJBall's comment, the unknown is on xtools. I don't think this is solvable by editing the template, I think it'd require a change to Xtools, which I think is checking/parsing the page to find out if it is a disambiguation page by looking for "class = disambig" per the source code.. Ok I realized now that xtools uses mw:Extension:PageAssessments as to get the page assessments so this should be fixable here, will fix soon Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:41, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Something which needs fixing?

If no one has yet noticed, there are many instances of "Category:Disambig-Class (WikiProject) articles" where the class assessment for the WP has suddenly changed from Category-Class to Disambig-Class. Since none of the cats I spot-checked have been edited in years, I can only assume this occurred due to changes made to this template and its usage on those category talk pages. It may be related to a new feature on {{class mask}} which is designed to automatically detect disambiguation pages. Perhaps it is incorrectly identifying these pages because of the Disambig in the name. I'll look into it. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:35, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
