Solo
[edit]Would a box for Becker and Fagen solo albums be something to consider here? Obviously if it was a group with a lot of solo releases (The Beatles for example) it'd be unfeasible, but here we're talking half a dozen albums, so... yeah? -- Bobyllib (talk) 23:45, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree regarding the small number of solo albums from both members Satan165 (talk) 01:32, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Royce Jones
[edit]Who the hell is this guy? All of the members listed were full time members during the 1st two albums or substantial live contributors. I have never heard of this guy. His own page doesn't mention what his contributions have been. If he is going to be listed as a 'member' then Larry Carlton and many others who have actually made significant contributions should be listed.
UPDATE: according to http://212.178.99.195/SteelyDanDatabase/personinfo.jsp?id=32#top -- there have been many similar and larger contributors since and they are not (and should not) be listed as well. I have removed him. Along these same lines Michael McDonald (and Jeff Porcaro) is tenuous as well yet probably listed because of his exterior fame. All others listed were full time members on the first two albums (when there was an actual band on the albums, not a revolving door of session musicians) satan165 (talk) 07 March 2010 (UTC)
- It took me a few months to notice this, but Porcaro, McDonald and Jones were all full-time members of the band, albeit briefly. See http://www.steelydan.com/timelinebio.html; there is a difference between these musicians and Carlton, et. al - that is, the musicians in the former group were considered official members of the band during touring behind the early records, whereas the latter were studio collaborators. The liner notes to the albums do not tell the full story. Colinclarksmith (talk) 21:58, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Notes on Template Edits
[edit]Here are some notes on my recent edits...
- I created separate templates for {{Walter Becker}} & {{Donald Fagen}} because their solo discographies are big enough to warrant it. I tucked them underneath the Steely Dan template on the main page.
- I changed the "Songs" section into a proper "Singles" section. (The "Songs" section was a random assortment of hits and album tracks, a few of which - "Charlie Freak", "Everything You Did", I'm looking at you - don't warrant separate articles and should be incorporated into their parent albums.) Thanks to this site, eBay (for cross-checking purposes) and others (including Steely Dan Database), I was able to compile a pretty definitive list.
- FYI - "Show Biz Kids", "My Old School", "Black Friday", "The Fez" & "Haitian Divorce" need to be separated from their parent albums.
