Template talk:Sourcetext

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The problem with sourcetext is that it requires the selection of a particular version, and for the most part only the KJV is offered, which is seriously outdated. The advantage of Template: bibleverse is that it allows the reader to select from a large number, including modern, translations. Maybe one day sourcetext will be as useful and as npov as bibleverse, but currently it has a long way to go.

Here's the list of versions supported by bibleverse: http://php.ug.cs.usyd.edu.au/~jnot4610/bibref.php#srcref

As far as I know, the only complete bible at sourcetext is KJV. The people behind sourcetext have been promising great things for some time now (see also Template_talk:Bibleverse), however, nothing as of yet has changed.

Bibleverse also supports the Catholic and Orthodox Deuterocanonicals and Catholic translations such as NAB. 75.0.15.230 19:52, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sample use of bibleverse template: Genesis 1:1–5

Book name (source name) in italics

[edit]

Code: {{sourcetext|source=The Three Musketeers|Chapter 9|showsource=y}}

Renders as: The Three Musketeers, Chapter 9

I want it to render as: The Three Musketeers, Chapter 9

(but without the link icon.) I am doing this on the One for all, and all for one page. Any ideas? --Ccady 16:30, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To quote the Good Book...

[edit]

As the banner below the template advises ("This template employs intricate features of template syntax"), its use is not for the faint-hearted. There are easier ways to quote the Bible: Template:Bibleverse, Template:Sourcebible. See also Wikipedia talk:Citing sources/Bible.--Dampinograaf (talk) 03:14, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Verse links in The Doctrine and Covenants aren't working because the verse anchor format doesn't match this template.

{{Sourcetext|source=The Doctrine and Covenants|book=Section 1|verse=25|showsource=y}}

The Doctrine and Covenants, Section 1:25

That currently links to:

but should link to

Perhaps this is an indication that this template is an attempt to make a generalized book and verse format when Wikisource doesn't have consistent formatting? Daask (talk) 03:28, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I thinkg that reverting an IP's edit on 4 May 2009 at s:The Doctrine and Covenants/Section 1 will fix that. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 05:56, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another template available for BoM

[edit]

I found another user using this template to cite verses from the Book of Mormon (on an old page). I think the newer Template:LDS does this in a more intuitive way. I'd be interested to know if there is an advantage to using this template over that one. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 19:26, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
