I really can't get on with this whole "sporting positions" terminology. It just reads like a crude compromise, and actually means very little. If we are talking about "Sporting titles" such as championship wins, or other major competition victories then these aren't really "positions". On the other hand, if we are talking about positions of responsibility, then you either need the full "positions of responsibility" or the shorter "Sporting offices". "Sporting positions" jut sounds like a new chapter of the Kama Sutra! Pyrope 14:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Change to Parameter-ready template

[edit]

editprotected The current template appears as follows:

Sporting positions

This template exists as a header template akin to Template:s-off, except that unlike s-off, this one takes no parameters. It is intended for use in a series of succession boxes to allow sporting positions (directors / managers/ winners) to be included in the same listing, thereby avoiding the previous inelegant practice of using start box and end box to visually separate such offices.

To make this template parameter-ready, please replace the code with this (it will not change the way the template currently works, it just makes it capable of displaying more specific customs as per Template:s-roy. As soon as the edit is done, I will add a /doc page to link to it.):

s-start
|-
! colspan="3" style="background:#99ff66;" |{{#if:{}||Sporting positions}}{{#switch:{}
|#default={{#if:{}|Sporting positions}}
|gaa=Gaelic games
}}<noinclude>
end

</noinclude>

Thank you! And I think I may just add the /doc now to make the transition even smoother. Thank you again!

Proposed colour change

[edit]

The green in the background is just a little too strong and jarring to the eye, especially if the succession box is forcing the header to be quite wide (e.g. in Terry Neill). Can I propose changing the colour to a slightly lighter colour, such as CCFF99? Example given below:

s-start
|-
! colspan="3" style="background:#ccff99;" width=250|{{#if:{}||Sporting positions}}{{#switch:{}
|#default={{#if:{}|Sporting positions}}
|gaa=Gaelic games
}}
s-end

instead of:

s-start
|-
! colspan="3" style="background:#99ff66;" width=250|{{#if:{}||Sporting positions}}{{#switch:{}
|#default={{#if:{}|Sporting positions}}
|gaa=Gaelic games
}}
s-end

Thoughts welcome, thank you. Qwghlm 12:26, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do think the colour should be changed, but why do we need a green at all rather than having it the same colour as the rest of the template? - The Daddy 06:28, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is a reason why headers have colours: so that navigation can be made easier for readers in larger succession boxes. A reader will look for the header that will be above the title they look for, and the easiest way to find a header is to look for the colour the reader knows it will have. I believe this issue has already been discussed in Succession Box Standardization. Waltham, The Duke of 08:19, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notice -- discussion is ongoing about changing the color of this box. If interested, please visit Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Succession Box Standardization#Changing S-Sports color to less bold color -- Guroadrunner 06:04, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed a complete colour scheme for headers, including s-sports. You can find it at SBS's talk page—please comment there. Waltham, The Duke of 08:19, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have implemented the color change that was proposed and apparently accepted at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Succession_Box_Standardization/Archive_5#Proposal_for_full_header_colouring_scheme.2C_preliminary_phase. It's not this exact color, but it's much easier on the eyes. --B (talk) 13:25, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

editprotected Please add Olympic Games, or Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics as options, since there is already a Gaelic Games option, it would make sense that the most prominent sporting competition in the world should be an option. 70.51.10.38 (talk) 08:37, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rugby Union header

[edit]

editprotected The template is currently used to indicate rugby union world cup winning captains, as well as other national team captains. The "sporting positions" title isn't adequate. I propose adding "Rugby Union Captain" (RUC) as an option for the header, as well as a general "Rugby union" (RU) for general use eg tournaments. Cheers! - Sahmejil (talk) 10:18, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To quote the template: "This template should be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, so that an editor unfamiliar with the subject matter could complete the requested edit immediately.". I have no idea how to implement what you are asking. Please prepare a more detailed request. Use example articles and try to prepare the code in a sandbox or something. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 12:41, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am making a similar request to the previous two on this talk page.
  • Please edit this template so it will have the option of displaying the following two headers too:
    • "Rugby Union Captain"
    • "Rugby union"
Hope this is more clear If you are asking me how to do it - I don't know - that's why I am here - Sahmejil (talk) 13:25, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Done, although it is not logical to add them to this template. Ruslik_Zero 13:34, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Parameter

[edit]

How about adding a parameter for championships and achievements?

|champ=Sporting Championships and Achievements

I think this would be more appropriate for championships teams win in leagues they play, i.e., Super Bowl, World Series, Premier League champions. --Flyguy33 (talk) 21:14, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The title should be changed in "Summer Olympics" like is in the template of "Winter Olympics". --Kasper2006 (talk) 08:04, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Winter Paralympics

[edit]

Since we distinguish between Summer and Winter Olympics, there's no good reason to not do the same for the Paralympics, particularly in light of an article I was just looking at where an athlete competed in both summer and winter paras, but was flagbearer in the winter only. His suc-box was confusing, see Mehmet Çekiç. Please add another parameter so we can use this in a more agile and appropriate fashion and to stop the prejudice against lumping all para-athletes into one pile.
