Nino Rota Template - "Film Music" Section OK - or Not?
[edit]FWIW - seems that the "Film Music" section containing links to films with music scores composed by Nino Rota in the Nino Rota Template is not ok by one editor - seems the film score to "Romeo and Juliet" is ok - but the film scores to "The Taming of the Shrew" and "War and Peace" (or any of the relevant Fellini Films, like "8½" and "Juliet of the Spirits") - are not? - Other editors may disagree with this edit deletion of course - After all, according to "WP:OWN", "All Wikipedia content ... is edited collaboratively" - The following listing of films with music scores by Nino Rota was deleted, without discussion, and without noting the exact basis in the WP:MOS and/or WP:POLICY, by "User:Robsinden":

QUESTION: Is the edit deletion of the "Film Music" section in the Nino Rota Template *entirely* OK - or Not? - Comments Welcome - in any case - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 15:40, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- The relevant Wikiproject advises against any filmography navboxes except director navboxes in order to avoid navbox creep. The implication is that once we start having crew navboxes for anything other than directors, the articles will be more navbox than article. Some films can have 5-6 producers, 3-4 writers, composers, editors, cinematographers, best boys and key grips... The other thing with linking to the films in this instance is that you actually then miss out on the soundtrack articles in the navbox, the actual work of the composer (The Romeo and Juliet (1968 film soundtrack) link is a link to the soundtrack, the notable work by Rota, War and Peace (1956 film) is a link to the film). --Rob Sinden (talk) 15:49, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Also, the navbox is a bloody mess! --Rob Sinden (talk) 15:54, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Robsinden: Thank you *very much* for your comments - and related link (new to me) - they're *greatly* appreciated - *entirely* ok with me to abide by the relevant WikiProject policy of course - in any case - Thanks again for your comments - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 16:03, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Drbogdan: Thank you for deleting most of the very long list of Rota links from this navbox. The ones that have been kept are links to articles about the musical compositions themselves, the links that were deleted were to articles about films that contained music by Rota. IOW, The contents of the navbox were formerly identical with the ultimate contents of Category:Compositions by Nino Rota. I recently added The Godfather Part III to this navbox. What now remains is a meagre list comprising four soundtracks of films and three purely musical works not associated with a film. But I am not sure that this navbox is helpful. I first noticed it when someone added it to the article Nino Rota discography. This template was previously nominated for deletion. If you read Templates for discussion for this template the arguments center on the fact that Rota is an awesome composer. Nobody disputes that. The question to me is what is this template for. IAC it is misnamed. It should be called something like "Recordings of Musical works by Nino Rota".
- The logical solution would be to add a category titled Orchestral works by Nino Rota (but it would so far contain only one article, the Trombone Concerto) and then get rid of this template. It does not help that Nino Rota is a very complex subject. In general, the categories, lists, and navboxes associated with composers is often a tangled mess. The whole subject makes my head hurt.--Foobarnix (talk) 17:24, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
