Stub name

[edit]

Why not just make it a Serbia-geo-stub? Don't complicate things :) --Bolonium 03:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was tried. A lot of Kosovan editors want nothing containing the word "Serbia" even remotely connected to their stub articles. So connecting the two caused a short but violent edit war. Grutness...wha? 23:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Will that do? Thanks, George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp and assistance 14:04, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, no - for a few of reasons. Currently this links to Europe geography stubs and has a map of Europe. Once it gets its own separate template (which is very likely once some certainty has been gained over its recognition) it will get a dedicated Category:Kosovo geography stubs category if there are sufficient numbers. If not, it will be double-upmerged to Category:Europe geography stubs and Category:Kosovo stubs. In either case, the new flag will probably be used as the template. No stub categories use the term "X related", and haven't done for some time. if you want to become involved in the debate on this and other Kosovo stub types, BTW, I'd suggest you do it where the debate is actually taking place (at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals) rather than here! :) Grutness...wha? 10:13, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

[edit]

I have protected this page owing to a mounting edit war over the icon used - something which I'vealso done wwith the other Kosovo-related stubs. Edit wars on templates can be far-reaching, owing to the transclusion of those templates on multiple pages. Thus, I ask that any discussion about the template occurs here.

In the interests of clarification, I will point out the following about the flag and plain blue icons at the centre of the dispute.

  • The flag is the recognised international symbol of Kosovo, and as such is a valid possibil;ity for a stub icon. However, given the circumstances of Kosovo's declaration of independence, it may not be the wisest choice of icon, as it may imply a lack of neutrality of Wikipedia's part.
  • The plain blue map is in line with similar icons (e.g., that used on Cyprus-stub), where a flag may be too controversial. The plain blue flag seems, on the other hand, to deny the flag's existence and thus may also be construed as being less than neutral.
  • A third option, such as a thumbnail icon of Pristina's best-known building (compare Tibet-stub), or a topographical rather than plain-coloured map, may be a better compromise solution.
