Technical issue with base template

[edit]

There is currently a technical issue with a module used by the OSM Location map template that prevents this template from rendering properly. Instead of showing all of the markers with their corresponding location labels, only 16 markers with numbered labels are shown. I have disabled (vice commented) this template on pages using it in order to indicate this is still in use and thus provide additional incentive to developers for fixing the underlying issue. As of 27 October 2023, it is actively being worked. An alternative is to convert this template to use Template:Location map+. Waz8:T-C-E 05:05, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

... still being worked as of 13 December 2023. Waz8:T-C-E 05:32, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
... returned to service on 11 March 2024. Waz8:T-C-E 03:54, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mark limit

[edit]

With Template:OSM Location map being limited to displaying only 60 marks, four team cities (those added to the league in 2021) can't be displayed. NatureBoyMD (talk) 11:09, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I could probably add the needed additional marks by editing the OSM location map template, following the pattern of the first 60. However, this isn't a good long-term solution, as teams will inevitably move to new cities, requiring more marks to periodically be added. Maybe there could be two partial maps: east/west or north/south? These would also fit better on a page than one big map. Waz8:T-C-E 03:59, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I favor a north/south split, with the split going between Baltimore and Indianapolis perhaps, for both mark limitations and a better screen fit. NatureBoyMD (talk) 13:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that a north/south split would result in a better fit on a screen with a common aspect ratio. I had initially thought about using the latitude of the northern Tennessee/North Carolina border as the boundary, but your recommendation results in a more equitable split of the cities. Plus, using the latitude of the Mason–Dixon line as the boundary coincidentally sets the map split at the border of the cultural North and South! Waz8:T-C-E 03:58, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It appears this scheme will work -- really! I moved 4 cities to the southern map in order to to display all of the northern ones. I will continue moving more cities soon but feel free to make more changes. Waz8:T-C-E 06:58, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done Might be able to crop the maps more tightly, though. The locations in each map could re-indexed as well. Waz8:T-C-E 04:53, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! NatureBoyMD (talk) 12:47, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
