Translating this template
[edit]Hello!
I tried to translate this template to Turkish, but there is still an issue that I cannot find out. When I watch this template's site here, I see the {{{name}}}
part on the right top above the white line. On the Turkish site, however, this "name" does not appear. Perhaps as a result of this, the only page that is using this template on the Turkish Wikipedia, Sputnik Planum, does not have the header displayed. Can you help me finding out what I have forgotten while translating it? The template does not show any missing templates used. Thank you in advance! (By the way: I think one of the immature parts of the Wikimedia projects are the templates; I think that there should be a place called Wikitemplates (like Wikidata), where all the templates are created in English. This would make the translation process easy by creating a language stub.)--Sae1962 (talk) 09:29, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
Proposed changes
[edit]Seeing as this template intends to be a catch-all for astronomical surface features, there are a few changes I believe would improve the infobox in conveying information concisely:
- Add a separate parameter for celestial objects - normally, this is included under the "location" parameter. However, I would argue that which celestial object the feature is located on is significant enough to readers to warrant a separate parameter; and that the current situation can violate the concise recommendation at H:IB. Particularly egregious examples of this are features which are located within several regions or quadranges, such as Utaridi Planitia, which straddles three quadrangles of Mercury.
- Change "peak" to "height" - This is a minor one, but this is primarily to be consistent with the "depth" parameter. More importantly, "peak" can/is used on features where the idea of a single peak does not necessarily apply (e.g. plateaus, highlands, etc.), and this may cause confusion to readers.
