No consensus to move. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:52, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Template:Friedrich Schiller → Template:Works by Schiller – Less ambiguous. A template "Schiller" comprising issues like people, places, and institutions around Schiller can easily become of interest. Like done by Sardanaphalus with the Gogol works template here. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 18:27, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose as unnecessary and inconsistent with existing template names in Category:German writers templates and many other such categories in literature and elsewhere. If other articles become available and merit inclusion in the template, they can easily be accommodated — the template is very versatile. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 02:53, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose standard naming for templates like this is current format. 65.94.45.160 (talk) 03:39, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Please, pay attention to the fact that Schiller, just as a man, is, different than most other German writers apart from Goethe, the subject of big worship and systematic investigation. The decisive German encyclopedia Der Große Brockhaus in twelve volumes (1953-1957) has a whole page only with images of Schiller and people and houses around him (vol. 10, p.375 (1956)).
- But one can, maybe, include a respective subsection which would have to be opened separately, in the template at issue. The whole template could then be renamed to Schiller and his works, or so.
- Please, note that I am planning to create such a template (on people and other issues than works) for Goethe. If anybody should want me to include, or not to include, that (in a special way) within the template on works by Goethe that I have just created, yesterday, he resp. she may tell me that. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 12:08, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- As I wrote above, the template can accommodate expansion. For examples, see {{Haydn}}, {{Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart}}, {{Ludwig van Beethoven}}. Navigation templates don't have to include entries for every single article about the subject; they should serve as a kind of index. If this template should get moved to the proposed name, it would make adding items which are not Schiller's works but about him much more awkward. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:04, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- It is clear that a template does not necessarily have to include every single article about the subject; but I feel strongly tempted to create a new template comprising people and other items around Schiller, or to create a respective subsection within the template at issue.
- Thank You, very much, for the hints to the templates on the composers! The method to insert further cases within the template that reach farther to the right might help, in this case. There seem to be much more articles on single works of poetry than on single musical works. Therefore, it could look much worse to include subsections about people and other issues into a template on a poet than into a template on a composer, because such a subsection could appear like a minuscule addition. This problem might be solved by such cases reaching farther to the right; but one would have to try that out, in practice. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 13:24, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- "There seem to be much more articles on single works of poetry than on single musical works." Hmm, let me count the ways: Category:Compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach (232), Category:Compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (236), Category:Operas by composer (2397), Category:Compositions by composer (9285); on the other hand, Category:German poems (72), Category:Poetry by author (1343).
I have expected that. I did not mean there were much more articles on such works altogether, but that it seemed like that, and hoped You would understand that I tried to hint to the fact by that that in the templates on composers You have linked above, there are less single musical works than there are single poetical works, in the template on Schiller.
One could make a template with people around Schiller and include it only into the Friedrich Schiller article: it could easily cause considerable confusion if one was pointed to, let`s say, Alexander von Humboldt by a template Friedrich Schiller, in the article Die Kraniche des Ibykus. It would appear more useful, to me, to call such a template on people around Schiller Template: Friedrich Schiller, and the other Template: Works by Friedrich Schiller, than calling the people-around-Schiller template Template: People around Friedrich Schiller, and the template on the works Template: Friedrich Schiller. This latter name is just the name of a person and, thus, strongly evokes thoughts about persons. Therefore, I have requested the move. So far, I have not prepared such a people-around-Schiller template, so maybe I cannot yet impress anybody very much and will have to request the move, again, when that changes. --Hans Dunkelberg (talk) 18:06, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
