Publisher
[edit]Previously the template listed the publisher as "Navy Department, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Naval History Division" which is appropriate if one is citing the printed version of Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships. But since most usage of this template will be to the online version, I have made it match what is displayed on each page at the online version of DANFS: "Navy Department, Naval Historical Center". — Bellhalla (talk) 13:15, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Name change
[edit]Since the Naval Historical Center is now Naval History & Heritage Command I think this template should be updated to reflect. This is an appearance issue as the redirect works regardless. --Brad (talk) 18:08, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Do we really Need templates for DANFS and Cite DANFS
[edit]I would like to solicite comments on wether we really need 2 separate templates that do basically the same thing. I realize that the Cite DANFS template is designed more for use as an inline citation and this is more for a notification but I recommend we modify the Cite DANFS template so that if there is a flag set (maybe info-only= Yes) then the citation would display with the This article uses information from verbiage that this template uses. Does anyone have any opposition to doing this? --Kumioko (talk) 15:00, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- I'm going to have to think this out before reply. I don't really think we need both but then the more functions added to a template the less people will use it correctly. Brad (talk) 23:27, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
title styling
[edit]I have added a bit of code to Module:WPSHIPS utilities that selectively styles the ship name portion of a DANFS article title and leaves the rest unstyled. DANFS article titles typically are one of these four forms:
- <ship name> <disambiguator> (<hull number>)
- <ship name> (<hull number>)
- <ship name> <disambiguator>
- <ship name>
{{cite DANFS}}
now renders these four title forms:
- "Enterprise VII (CV-6)". Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships. Navy Department, Naval History and Heritage Command.
- "MacKenzie II (Destroyer No. 175)". Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships. Navy Department, Naval History and Heritage Command.
- "Admiral I". Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships. Navy Department, Naval History and Heritage Command.
- Cressman, Robert J. (2005-12-06). "Bridgeport". Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships. Navy Department, Naval History and Heritage Command.
These are, I think preferable to the previous brute-force italicization of the whole |title=
value: Enterprise VII (CV-6).
