Usage
[edit]The {{WikiProject India}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

Template display formatting parameters:
- pre - for pre-independence articles; changes flag image to a map of sub-continent if pre=yes.
General parameters:
- class – a rating of the article's quality; see the assessment department for more details.
- FA - The article has reached Featured article status.
- A - Could be submitted as a Featured article candidate; probably could use some small updates to make it Featured quality.
- GA - The article has reached Good article status.
- B - Satisfies all C-class criteria, but also has a majority of the material needed for a comprehensive article. At minimum, it should also have some references to reliable sources. Nonetheless, it has some gaps or missing elements or references, needs editing for language usage or clarity, balance of content, or contains other policy problems such as copyright, Neutral Point Of View (NPOV) or No Original Research (NOR).
- C - The article is substantial, but is still missing important content or contains a lot of irrelevant material. The article must have a defined structure (a lead section, one or more sections of content, and a section dedicated to providing references). The article should be free from major grammatical errors, and should also contain supporting materials such as an infobox, images, or diagrams.
- Start - The article is more than a stub, but may lack some important aspects of the topic's discussion.
- Stub - The article is a stub; it likely contains one of the India stub templates.
- Needed - The article does not yet exist but has been identified as a subject that should be covered.
- Disambig or Dab - The article is a disambiguation page.
- Redirect or Redir - The article is a redirect page.
- Template - The page is a template.
- Category or Cat - The page is a category.
- Image or Img - The page is an image.
- List - The page is a list.
- Portal - The page is a portal.
- Book - The page is a book.
- NA - The page is not an article and should not be rated; it could be a template, image or category, for example.
- importance – a rating of the article's importance; see the assessment department for more details.

- orphan – "yes" if the article is not currently supported by an Indian WikiProject.
- needs-infobox – "yes" if the article lacks an infobox, otherwise remove this line.
- auto – "yes" This parameter is for bot-use.
- map-needed – "yes" if the article needs a map, otherwise remove this line. It adds articles to Category:Wikipedia requested maps in India.
- image-needed – "yes" if the article needs pictures, otherwise remove this line. It adds articles to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in India. The template automatically categorizes the articles into "Wikipedia requested photographs in" location categories based on taskforce parameters. For example, if chennai=yes and image-needed=yes, will place the article talk page into Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Chennai.
- assess-date - Date last assessed. Example: assess-date={{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}
- reassess – set
|reassess=yesif the article needs reassessment of its current rating.- This parameter populates Category:India articles needing reassessment.
- attention – "yes" if the article requires immediate attention; this should be used sparingly.
Portal specific parameters
- portal – if the article is used in the selected article queue of the India Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
- portal-picture – if the image is used in the selected picture queue of the India Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
- portaldykdate – Date on which the article was displayed on the DYK section of the India portal. Format: [[Month]] [[day]], [[Year]].
Collaboration specific parameters
- collaboration-candidate – "yes" if the article is currently a candidate for the project's Collaboration of the Month.
- past-collaboration – Month when the article was previously a Collaboration of the Month, the dash-separated dates of the collaboration period; must be left blank otherwise.
- failed-collaboration – Month when the article was nominated for the Collaboration of the Month, but failed to quality; must be left blank otherwise.
