Template:SvaraH/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:SvaraH. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template uses Lua: |
This template facilitates the easy input of one of the popular styles of notation for svaras in Hindustani classical music. The svaras are then displayed in standard fashion with accessible abbr tags which provide an expansion for each note when it is active or hovered on. The template also optionally lists alternate notations for the same svaras in Western or Carnatic convention.
Important: Be aware that sources often use their own conventions when it comes to notations particularly in their use of lower and upper case for svaras. For example, some use lower-case m for the lower shuddha ma and upper-case M for the higher tivra ma while others use m for tivra ma and M for shuddha ma. This template uses the former.
Usage
[edit]Group type | Footnote marker template | Explanation |
---|---|---|
{{svaraH|S|r|g|M|P|d|N|S'}} |
S Ṟ G̱ M̄ P Ḏ N Ṡ | The notes in this form of input are case-sensitive. |
{{svaraH|S|R|G|m|P|D|n|S'}} |
S R G M P D Ṉ Ṡ | Each note is displayed using an {{abbr}} tag. Overdots and underdots signify higher and lower octaves respectively. |
{{svaraH|g}} |
G̱ | You can also use this template with a single svara. |
{{svara|M̄}} |
M̄ | You can also use the generic {{Svara}} template with a valid svara. This should rarely be necessary |
{{svaraH|S|r|G|M|P|d|n|S'|foot=yes}} |
S Ṟ G M̄ P Ḏ Ṉ Ṡ[a] | Equivalent Carnatic and Western notations can optionally be displayed as a footnote. The Western notation assumes Sa to be C. The Carnatic notation is also only an approximation as the current conversion function doesn't account for the overlap in the solfège. |
{{svaraH|S|R|g|m|P|D|N|S'|abbr=no}} |
S R G̱ M P D N Ṡ | You can turn off the use of abbr tags (which are enabled by default) by specifying abbr=no. This is particularly useful if you make a lot of template calls in an article and are facing performance issues. |
The foot parameter create an {{efn}} footnote which can be displayed using the {{notelist}} tag. The notes are also grouped and, if necessary, can be displayed separately using the {{notelist|group=svara}}
notation.
- ^ Alternate notations:
- Carnatic: S R₁ G₃ M₂ P D₁ N₂ Ṡ
- Western: C D♭ E F♯ G A♭ B♭ C
