Timișoara Fortress

Timișoara Fortress in 1602
Timișoara Fortress in 1602
  • ... that after his first visit to Timișoara, in the fall of 1307, Charles Robert of Anjou built between 1308 and 1315 the Timișoara Fortress as a stone fortress, using Italian craftsmen, and on the site of an older Avar clay fortress.Source: Jenő Szentkláray (1911). • Comment: This is a newly created history and archaeology article, having at the base the translation of the Romanian article. Quite well done, by a new user

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
  • Cited: Yes - Offline/paywalled citation accepted in good faith
  • Interesting: Yes
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Great new article. The hook could stand to be reworded and shortened somewhat, and the picture is not used in the article. Catrìona (talk) 15:36, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, thanks a lot for the review. The image used in the Angevin Fortress section could be used instead, if needed. And there are many other images throughout the article. Codrin.B (talk) 18:34, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
Personally, I like the image at right, and it's clear at the required size. You still haven't suggested edits to your hook, which needs to be 200 characters or less if I understand the guidelines correctly. Catrìona (talk) 21:18, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for choosing and cropping the pic. The hook can be shortened to "... that after his first visit to Timișoara, in the fall of 1307, Charles Robert of Anjou built between 1308 and 1315 the Timișoara Fortress as a stone fortress, using Italian craftsmen". Would that work? Codrin.B (talk) 16:47, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
You're welcome. The syntax on that one is still a bit funny, with the date hung between verb and object. I'd prefer "... that after his first visit to Timișoara, in the fall of 1307, Charles Robert of Anjou ordered the construction of Timișoara Fortress (completed 1315) by Italian stonemasons." Catrìona (talk) 16:54, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
I like it. Much better formulation :-) Thanks again. Codrin.B (talk) 07:59, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
You're welcome! Since I wrote it, I have to call in a third person to review it. Catrìona (talk) 12:21, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
  • ALT2: "... that after his first visit to Timișoara, in the fall of 1307, Charles Robert of Anjou built between 1308 and 1315 the Timișoara Fortress as a stone fortress, using Italian craftsmen". Catrìona (talk) 12:21, 16 July 2018 (UTC) [[

@Catrìona and Codrinb: As I am two thirds of the way through copy editing the article for GOCE and so am familiar with it I will volunteer to be the third person. Ah, ALT2 doesn't seem that hooky to me, or even grammatical. How would you feel about:

  • Both are approved, but I prefer ALT4. Thanks Gog! Catrìona (talk) 16:24, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
I also like ALT4. Looks good. Thanks a lot Gog for the copy-editing and for this! Codrin.B (talk) 15:55, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
