... that four publishers rejected The Bone People by Keri Hulme(pictured), and the novel went on to win the Booker Prize? Source: [1] "Four publishers refused the novel in its submitted form, apparently for different reasons."
ALT1: ... that two of the five judges of the 1984 Booker Prize did not want to award the prize to The Bone People by Keri Hulme(pictured) because it featured child abuse and violence? Source: [2] "While judges Marina Warner and JW Lambert, along with St John Stevas, supported The Bone People, Nina Bawden opposed the book because of its violence, as did Joanna Lumley ... ‘We can’t have a book on childbattering, no matter how lyrically observed, carrying off the gold.'"
ALT2: ... that The Bone People by Keri Hulme(pictured) nearly ended up as a doorstop instead of a Booker Prize-winning novel? Source: [3] "Fed up with rejections, Hulme admits in a preface to an edition published this year that she decided to buy a resin used to make trendy paperweights, "embalm" the manuscript and turn it into a doorstop."
ALT3: ... that when told she'd won the Booker Prize for The Bone People, Keri Hulme(pictured) responded, "You're pulling my leg, aren't you? Bloody hell"? Source: [4] "“You’re pulling my leg, aren’t you?” she said in disbelief. “Bloody hell.”"
Comment: My favourite is ALT2 but not sure the wording is 100% right. Very open for hook improvement suggestions/alternative hooks. Thanks in advance!

Forgot to mention, the photo of Keri in the article in the 'Reception' section is free and would be a great one to feature, but I wasn't sure if featuring the image of an author is appropriate (given the subject of the DYK is the novel). I've added it to the nom anyway, so that it's an option for the reviewer to consider. Chocmilk03 (talk) 03:10, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Taking the review for this. Review will come soon. Onegreatjoke (talk) 12:45, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
I note you've put NA for the picture; do you have any concerns on that front? Many thanks, Chocmilk03 (talk) 19:45, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
I can't access the source but I will assume good faith for this. also about the picture I just forgot to put a y on everything. I'm just used to putting NA. Onegreatjoke (talk) 20:10, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Ahaha, I do the same thing (with the picture). Thanks heaps! Chocmilk03 (talk) 20:41, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
