The Archives of the Planet
- ... that The Archives of the Planet (pictured, Great Pyramid of Giza) includes 72,000 color photographs of human cultures taken in 50 countries between 1908 and 1931? Source: Lundemo, Trond (2017). "Mapping the World: Les Archives de la Planète and the Mobilization of Memory". Memory in Motion: Archives, Technology and the Social. Amsterdam University Press. pp. 218–219.
- Comment: Third nomination so QPQ not required.

- This new article is long enough and well-sourced making it eligible for nomination. The copyvio is unlikely and the prose is well written. The hook is interesting and appealing, however, I am unable to verify which portion of the provided source directly supports the "photographs of human cultures". --Mhhossein talk 05:49, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Mhhossein: Thank you for the review. The bit about "human cultures" is backed up by de Luca, Tiago (2022). "A Disappearing Planet". Planetary Cinema: Film, Media and the Earth. Amsterdam University Press. p. 261., which says
the Archive's ambition was planetary: to record the whole world, its places and its peoples... As Kahn saw it, his Archive was to respond to a sweeping globalisation that threatened local cultures and rural lifestyles
. Ruбlov (talk • contribs) 13:37, 13 April 2022 (UTC)- You're welcome Ruбlov and thanks for providing the source. Unfortunately, the new source is not supporting the hook either. I would say "...72,000 color photographs of local cultures taken in...". I should add that the source has a attributive tone, too, but this is not so serious here. --Mhhossein talk 06:46, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Mhhossein: "Human culture" is a synonym that in my opinion works better in the hook. Ruбlov (talk • contribs) 12:01, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
- How about this?
ALT1: ... that The Archives of the Planet (pictured, Great Pyramid of Giza) includes 72,000 color photographs and 183,000 meters of film taken in 50 countries between 1908 and 1931?Ruбlov (talk • contribs) 12:23, 14 April 2022 (UTC)- Thanks for the new hook, but I believe it's not as interesting. I was waiting for something like "photographs of ...". ALT1 seems vague to me, to be honest. I think this source can be used for the "human culture" hook. Your thoughts? --Mhhossein talk 18:24, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- I think this should be good enough for the original hook: "The imagery is from the collection of French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn (1860-1940), who dispatched photographers worldwide in the early decades of the twentieth century, to capture on film various cultures at the point of change." (Johnson, Brian (Summer 2012). "Review: Middle East: the Birth of Nations—Albert Kahn's Archive of the Planet". Review of Middle East Studies. 46 (1): 92–93.) - Well, we can say the provided source is supporting the original hook. Good to go with the original hook. --Mhhossein talk 06:14, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
(copied from Template talk:Did you know nominations/The Archives of the Planet) @Bruxton: I'm not sure if this was your decision or not but I feel it's rather pointless to have this hook at DYK without an image when the article is about a photographic project. Surely a rare color photograph of the pyramids of Giza from a hundred years ago is more interesting than a generic picture of a hockey player? Ruбlov (talk • contribs) 00:39, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Rublov: I thought it could run without the image, but I will un-promote it and allow another editor to make a determination. Bruxton (talk) 02:12, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- Personally I find the images that include people more attractive than the Pyramid (where the colour doesn't add much). For example, I like the Istanbul one. —Kusma (talk) 09:03, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
- This one? Am I allowed to propose alternate images? I think this image of a Buddhist lama also looks pretty cool. Ruбlov (talk • contribs) 14:09, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
