Stan Sismey
[edit]- ... that Australian cricketer Stan Sismey (pictured), who was wounded in action as a pilot during World War II, once left the field of play during a game because shrapnel was working its way out of his body?

- Comment: I have done a 6X expansion with extensive refs and hunted down/uploaded a headshot pic
(not the one above)in just under six days; hoping that this is deemed to be new enough? Grant | Talk 06:19, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

- A very interesting article. Until I read it, I had believed myself to be reasonably knowledgeable about cricket, but I'd never heard of this bloke. So he's just the sort of person who should be covered in Wikipedia and included in DYK. The expansion is new and long enough, the article seems to be within core policies, and the BLP policy doesn't apply. The hook format is good and the content interesting. I like both the images - can we display both of them? If I have to choose, I think the pilot one is the better of the two. The images are out of copyright under Australian law, and probably also under UK law (at least the Hassett image was created in the UK, and maybe also the pilot one). I have fixed some typos and have moved some inline citations to enable the removal of a "citation needed" tag. However, I still have three reservations. First, the infobox's description of "Australian Services XI" and "Scotland" as domestic teams is at least odd, and probably also wrong. But this issue seems to be a problem with the infobox template and not specifically with the article, so perhaps the issue should be taken up with the relevant WikiProject. Secondly, the following passage doesn't read well when it is borne in mind that (according to the article) Sismey made his NSW debut after the war had started, and the latter part of the passage needs a citation (which must be obtainable somewhere):
- "He was considered a contender to succeed Bert Oldfield as Australian wicketkeeper when the war intervened,[11] and official international matches were suspended.[citation needed]"
- Review needed to make sure the issues have been addressed as needed. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:44, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
- 5x expansion verified. Article is new enough, long enough, well-referenced, no close paraphrasing seen in sources. Hook is interesting and hook ref verified. All citations are in order, except footnote 23, which starts with p. 58, while the article cites p. 51. Do you have another link? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 21:42, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Corrected fn23 to read "p108" and added a third alternate pic above of Sismey in his main cricketing role as wicketkeeper. Many thanks to everyone for their comments and editing of the article. Grant | Talk 05:46, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, everything's in order. Good to go. Yoninah (talk) 09:04, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
