Randall Carver
[edit]- ... that Randall Carver portrayed taxi driver John Burns in the television series Taxi for only the first season (1978–79)?
ALT1:... that, after the first season (1978–79), Randall Carver's character John Burns was replaced by Christopher Lloyd's hippie character, Jim Ignatowski, in the television series Taxi?- ALT2:... that, before appearing in the television series Taxi for one season, Randall Carver made an uncredited debut in the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy?
- ALT3:... that, after appearing in Taxi for one season, Randall Carver appeared in the two-part episode of The Love Boat alongside other guests: Loni Anderson, Donny Osmond, and Rich Little?
- ALT4:... that, after appearing in Taxi for one season, Randall Carver appeared in the made-for-television film Detour to Terror, starring O. J. Simpson?

- Article created via "Articles for creation" and moved to main space on Dec 1st. Character count is good. Reliable sources provided. Review of DYK nom for Big Ass Spider! looks okay. Hook has proper format/length. I was going to suggest ALT 1 as your hook, but unfortunately the referenced LA Times article only mentions that Carver played John Burns in Season 1. There is no mention of Christopher Lloyd's character being added to the regular cast specifically replace Carver's character; in fact, the Wiki article for Jim Ignatowski states that Lloyd's character was not made a regular cast member of Taxi until the 10th episode of the 2nd season (albeit, that passage happens to be unreferenced...) So in the end I say go with the main hook. Marchije•speak/peek 00:44, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- I made some changes about Lloyd, but I'm unsure if that benefits more using ALT1. If not, no need to reply, so you'd use the original hook then. George Ho (talk) 19:02, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- My issue with ALT 1 is that the contention that the character Jim Ignatowski "replaced" Carver's character is not supported in the LA Times article you cited. Yes, Carver's character only appeared in season 1, and yes, Jim Ignatowski became a regular character in season 2, but apparently Jim became a regular character 10 episodes into season 2 — not really a direct replacement, just an ever evolving cast. I was thinking that, if supported by a better reference, ALT 1 would have made for a better hook since I think when it comes to the series Taxi, the most memorable character for most people would have been Jim, yet I don't think most people know that Jim did not appear in the first season. But certainly if any other editors think I'm being too nitpicky about the definition of "replaced" here, feel free to weigh-in. Marchije•speak/peek 20:49, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- If there are sourcing problems with ALT1, then it should be struck, so I've struck it. As far as I can tell, only the main hook has been approved; if this is true, the non-approved hooks should be struck; if the other hooks are approved but not preferred, it helps to say that. Thanks. - Actually, I was hoping for a clarification from you, Marchije. Can you specify in words which of the hooks you've reviewed and approved? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:03, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
