Perce Wilson
[edit]- ... that Perce Wilson was the first Canadian-born quarterback to play in the National Football League?

- Article seems fine. It has been expanded and the size and dates are fine, no copyright violations, most policies seems in order, etc. However, there are a pair of problems. First, what about the name? The article is for "Perce Wilson", but the lead says "Percival James Wilson, sometimes shown as Percy Wilson". Second, "NFL" in the hook should be "National Football League". Cambalachero (talk) 01:54, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Cambalachero: "Perce" was the nickname by which he was known. I've added that to the article. I've also changed the hook as suggested. Cbl62 (talk) 02:09, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- Article is good to go Cambalachero (talk) 17:16, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- I have pulled this from the queue, and frankly the problem seems to be so serious that I believe this shouldn't go on the main page at all and a few people deserve a good trouting. The hook is sourced to three sources at first glance:
- [1] is a bad source anyway (a wiki), and doesn't list Wilson
- [2] is a good source (AFAICT), but doesn't list Wilson
- Which leaves us with ... "Pro-Football-Reference.com erroneously lists Wilson's place of birth as Detroit. The sources referenced above, including U.S. Census, Wilson's draft registration card, and the entry at Oldest Living Pro Football, all confirm, however, that Wilson was born in Ontario, Canada, and emigrated to Detroit as a boy with his family." which is pure original research. The reliability of oldestlivingprofootball seems to be dubious anyway, the other two are primary sources. When you use three sources, two of which claim X and one which claims Y, then it is not good practice to simply use Y for the hook; neither is it acceptable to review and promote this without any comment about this situation. (Note that the review stated nothing about the hook fact and the sources, which is normally a review requirement) Fram (talk) 09:15, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- Although I believe the reliable sources make clear that Wilson was born in Canada, I understand Fram's concern. At least one reliable sorce does list Detroit as his place of birth. For reasons having nothing to do with Wikipedia, my energy level presently is low and I don't wish to press the issue. Please deem this nomination withdrawn.
