Fu Shanxiang
[edit]- ... that Fu Shanxiang in 1853 was the first woman in Chinese history to take the Civil Service Exams, but she could to do so only under the revolutionary Taiping Heavenly Kingdom?
Created by CWH (talk). Self nominated at 22:05, 29 July 2014 (UTC).
- The article is new enough and long enough. The hook, particularly the second clause, is quite confusing. More importantly, it doesn't seem to be supported by the article or by the sources. The hook asserts as a matter of established fact that she "was the first ..." Yet, the article admits the historical record is "unclear" and merely asserts that she "may have taken the examination offered by the Kingdom in 1853 and become the first ..." That's a far cry from definitively being the first. The time sequence in the article is also inconsistent with the hook. The hook says she took the exams in 1853 under the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, but the article says that the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom didn't even assume power until 1854. Sorry, but this hook can't be passed. Cbl62 (talk) 05:47, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your patience! Your comments are on the mark, and I had to take some time to bring the article up to snuff and find several sources to back up the claim (see Talk:Fu Shanxiang). How's this for a revised hook:
- ALT1: ... that Fu Shanxiang is known as the first female Zhuangyuan because she took first place in the 1853 imperial civil service exams for women given by the rebel Taiping Heavenly Kingdom?
- @Cbl62, This article fails the criteria and not new enough, This article was created on 20 July and was nominated at 29 July so it fails the seven-day requirement, Every article should be nominated within seven days after creation, so i should say a NO on this. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 14:42, 1 September 2014 (UTC).
- As PapaJeckloy likely approved two of his own nominations using sockpuppets, he's hardly one to be ruling on any DYK infringement. This was indeed nominated nine days after it was moved to mainspace (though edits finished two days after the move); if Cbl62 wishes to grant a two-day extension per WP:DYKSG#D9 (or another IAR reason, as there is a considerable hook backlog), that isn't unreasonable. As far as I can tell, all of CWH's previous DYKs were nominated by others; we do generally extend leniency when it's a first time self-nominator. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:12, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
