Nerine Barrett
- ... that Nerine Barrett, one of the few black women who have achieved international recognition as a classical pianist, first performed on Radio Jamaica for her third birthday? Interesting life, on fine sources, subscription sources accepted AGF. I am not happy with the hook, find the explanation rather long, and the playing at age 3 rather sensational. Please try harder ;) - I made some minor copy-edits, hoping the edit summaries are clear enough. Still open: I hate to use the word "showmanship" for a woman, and the as the final word ;) - Also; I am not happy with the Mozart, - too general. If the NYT critic said nothing worth quoting, do we need to advertise his paper at all, and then have the other twice? Now this review was, specifically, for the mature K 503, played at The Proms conducted by Kempe, - that would lend more glamour to her than "The NYT"? How about a hook that N B from Jamaica was the soloist in that concerto at the Proms? (.. which everybody seems to know) - A while ago, we had Mr. Kempe's soprano wife on DYK, mentioning him also, DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:18, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- Please feel free to make any changes you want Gerda Arendt. I have very limited knowledge of music. I have never heard of the Proms and the names of the various pieces listed in the articles about her are unfamiliar. As for showmanship, I remind you of (Clara Schumann/Liszt). It is apparently a thing in classical music. It seems to me that a hook based on the fact that she is a black classical musician would draw in more viewers than simply listing a venue or a piece of music, but again, I am willing to leave it to others who have more knowledge of what viewers want. I can approve the hook, sure, just think the third birthday thing makes her just another child prodigy, not a serious musician as the Guardian review suggests she was. The word "showmanship" doesn't appear in Clara Schumann's article, - how about "display of virtuosity" instead? ... and please not at the end what she does not. The Guardian quote would be a good way to end. Do we have the New York Times review? ... because if not we could simply drop it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:01, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
