ALT1: ... that Mark Koenig (pictured) was the last surviving member of the 1927 New York Yankees team, known as the Murderers' Row?
What about the above hook? --George Ho (talk) 14:13, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
What's wrong with the approved hook I proposed? It's quirky, interesting and leaves the reader wanting to find out more. Don't take this personally, but in my opinion, the alternate hook simply gives plain, nondescript facts. Furthermore, the DYK reviewing guide clearly states that the reviewer "can also suggest an alternate (ALT) hook that is shorter". The ALT1 hook proposed is longer, so it completely goes against what a DYK hook is suppose to be (short, succinct and interesting). —Bloom6132 (talk) 03:00, 16 January 2013 (UTC)WP:DYKSG#J8 says that promoter may trim excessive length "without losing essential information". How is mentioning the year and baseball team not essential? --George Ho (talk) 04:22, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Actually I was going to promote this until I figured that original hook may look good for April Fools, so I added ALT1. Let's wait for Mifter's 2nd review. --George Ho (talk) 04:37, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Crossed out my ALT1, so I'm reserving this for April Fools. --George Ho (talk) 15:14, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
