L.A. Takedown
[edit]- ... that Vincent Hanna, the lead character in both L.A. Takedown and its 1995 remake Heat, was inspired by real-life police officer Chuck Adamson?
Improved to Good Article status by Daß Wölf (talk). Nominated by Captain Assassin! (talk) at 15:43, 11 September 2014 (UTC).
- This is a newly approved GA and is long enough and nominated in the correct timeframe. The hook fact has an inline citation although the website in question is mainly referring to the film Heat, of which this made-for-television movie is an earlier version with the same lead character. I found no policy issues. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:26, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Daß Wölf, Captain Assassin!, and Cwmhiraeth: I've pulled this from prep 3 because the hook fact appears to be sourced to a blog. Could somebody please explain why the source is acceptable or find a better source? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:16, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- I've replaced the blog source with a reliable one at the hook. And it was an accepted GA, you should ask this question to GA reviewer. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 06:16, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- I wouldn't like to express a view as to whether the new source is more reliable than the previous one, but the hook fact seems widely accepted and is unlikely to be controversial. When I come to think of it, the inspiration for something or the reason for doing it is a word-of-mouth sort of thing and is never going to be easy to link to a "reliable" source. - @HJ Mitchell: Looks like you are up for the review now. --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 01:28, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

- Still not a reliable enough source. Frankly I'm surprised this passed GA. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:44, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
- It's a reliable source (better than the Blog). --Captain Assassin! «T ♦ C ♦ G» 16:38, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
- Shawn Levy recounts the origin in his book about Robert De Niro [1] if you want to use it. Fuebaey (talk) 05:49, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

- I don't mind doing the review since this has been sitting for so long. Seems like this movie's connection to Heat is a lot more interesting, though. Also, fixed grammar and factual error in the hook. — LlywelynII 03:29, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, he was exactly the same character in both movies. That makes it easier. Hook emended. — LlywelynII 07:00, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- Original timeframe double-checked; long enough; neutral; nominated by 3rd party; passage verified. (It seems like the very best hook would be that the coffee shop conversation itself is alleged to have actually happened, but since neither movies' article actually makes that point, I suppose we can just focus on the character.)
BUT Earwig's tool found 50+% match with this blogspot review of Heat. I'm assuming some things need to be rephrased.— LlywelynII 07:16, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- Having reviewed specific lines, the high % simply came from having used identical quotes from other sources. Seems fine. Pass. — LlywelynII 07:25, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
