Johnny's Theme
[edit]- ... that "Johnny's Theme", beamed to Tonight Show viewers every weeknight from 1962 to 1992, was a cover song of a cover song of a cover song?
- ALT1:
... that Johnny Carson wrote and published lyrics (they were never used) for "Johnny's Theme" after his Tonight Show bandleader balked at using a song written by 20-year-old Paul Anka? - (First DYK nom)

Improved to Good Article status by ATinySliver (talk). Self-nominated at 02:04, 29 April 2015 (UTC).
- Improved to GA status on April 28, one day before DYK nomination. New enough, long enough, neutrally written, no close paraphrasing seen. I prefer the first hook for its brevity and punch; hook ref verified and cited inline. No QPQ needed for nominator with less than 5 DYKs. Good to go. Yoninah (talk) 18:28, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- Much obliged. Meantime, I missed one in the punch: technically, Anka's own version covered Funicello's version of his song, which covered his original pop composition, so it qualifies as a cover of a cover of a cover, per the cited sources. Cheers! —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 20:20, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for catching that and fixing the hook. By the way, footnote 5 is directing to a Google search page, not a website. Yoninah (talk) 20:57, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- Correct, there's a handful of those, specific to verifying the existence of the record releases; the search pages avoid direct links to sites like 45cat, which are considered iffy per WP:RS. (Edit:
I suppose the alternative would be to remove the ELs, and let people research for themselves, if they wish?In fact, I've done just that; the release data is sufficient for anyone wishing to find confirmation.) —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 21:17, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
