Comment. I was only 99.9% sure the "Ivan Gates" referred to in most newspaper articles was this person. It was (very) remotely possible that there were two of the same uncommon name who just happened to be pilots in San Francisco, but then I found an obscure newspaper two newspapers, the Atlanta Constitution and the obscure Napa Daily Journal, that did specify that it was "Ivan R. Eureka! The New York Daily News obituary confirms that the barnstormer was the pioneering police pilot. The much clearer photo of him handling off the miscreant to his chief of police cinches it. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:36, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
