HMCS Protecteur (AOR 509)
[edit]- ... that during Operation Apollo, HMCS Protecteur (pictured) logged over 50,000 nmi (93,000 km) and delivered over 150,000 barrels (~20,000 t) of fuel and 390 pallets of supplies?

- Newness and length ok, picture in the public domain. I tweaked the hook a little to make it a bit more concise and better reflect the corresponding line in the article (the article doesn't mention the coalition warships even though the source does). I'm willing to pass it as it is, but all the units and conversions seem a bit messy so it would be great if someone more experienced with DYKs could confirm if it's standard practice to show the full units conversions in DYKs.-Well-restedTalk 03:46, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, the conversions work against conciseness, and look a bit awkward. I suggest we lose them and simply use kilometres for distance and tonnes for fuel. -- Ohc ¡digame! 02:11, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

- requiring conversions is common practice and backed by style guidelines, but looks more than a bit awkward. The application of style guidelines in this particular case, runs so counter to the objective of conciseness that I think we should ignore.
But I'm wondering if a neater, more interesting, hook cannot be found... -- Ohc ¡digame! 02:18, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

- ALT1 ... that Captain Larry Dzioba of HMCS Protecteur (pictured) while off the coast of Portugal in 1980 hoisted an Esso flag on the ship's mast joking that they were the "biggest floating gas station in the neighborhood"?
- Better? --AdmrBoltz 02:30, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I was writing something along those lines when I got an ec.
- or
ALT2 ... that the crew of HMCS Protecteur (pictured) initiated a $400,000 search for Polish yacht Gedania that went missing on 30 August 1975?(arguably less "interesting" than ALT1, though). -- Ohc ¡digame! 02:37, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- Better? --AdmrBoltz 02:30, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- Let's go with ALT1. Have to AGF on it though because the source is off-line. -- Ohc ¡digame! 06:56, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
