Frank Esposito (politician)
[edit]- ...
that Frank Esposito, the longest serving mayor of Norwalk, Connecticut died on January 9, 2013?

- - The article is new enough, long enough and nominated in time. But there are some issues that needs to be solved before this can be approved. First off, you have not reviewed another nomination (QPQ), is there any reason why you haven't? Regarding the hook, I don't find it interesting that someone died last two weeks ago (and one of the requirements for DYK is that the hook is interesting), but that this guy was the longest serving mayor of Norwalk is interesting enough, (and backed up by an inline citation) and might be used as a hook, if you don't have any better options. There are also some issues with the article: you shouldn't have any citations in the lead, per WP:LEAD, as the facts are already cited in the body of the article (though that is not a requirement for DYK). Another thing; the section "Early life and family" needs a rewrite, as it now reads like a list of thing he did before he got famous - I would like to see a small copyedit so that this sections flows better for readers. Otherwise it looks good. Mentoz86 (talk) 22:18, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
- I have slightly reworded the hook to be more interesting, and I have slightly reworded to Early life and family section. I have not made a review as of yet because A) I was not aware of the policy, which is new to me since my last nomination. B) It appears that it applies to people who have made more than five nominations, and this is my third, so strictly speaking, it does not apply, C) currently my computer is having serious problems that cause for my edits to be accompanied by a lot of gobbly-gook. I would certainly be willing to do some reviews. However, right now is not a great time for it. I would be willing to "owe" some reviews to DYK at a time in the near future, and post that fact conspicuously on my user page. (I am lucky to be able to make this edit here now. Usually the longer I keep my computer on, the more problems I have.) Greg Bard (talk) 10:27, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- ALT1 ... that recently deceased Frank Esposito was the longest serving mayor in the history of Norwalk, Connecticut?
- I am at the library, so I did one review, and I will do some more later. Also, I moved the references to the appropriate section of the text as you pointed out. Greg Bard (talk) 15:39, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- You are not required to do a review for this nomination to be passed, as it is your 3rd DYK nom, but I encourage you to do a review if you get your computer problems fixed. :) The hook is now much more interesting, (I've formatted that it so that the new hook is called ALT1, so that the original hook is still present) but I would still strike out "recently deceased" (ALT2), but both can be used. Before I give this the green tick, I have some questions: Football, when talking about an American, does every reader know that we are talking about American football, or should it get a wikilink? He was married to Louise, but they did marry in 1951 - that sentence might need a tweak? Another thing: is "is buried" correct? I thought "was buried" sounded more correct, but I'm no native English-speaker. Mentoz86 (talk) 16:07, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

- ALT2 ... that Frank Esposito was the longest serving mayor in the history of Norwalk, Connecticut?
- I did some minor tweaks in response to your input. In America, American football is universally called "football" and what everyone else calls "football" is universally called "soccer." So I did put a link to be perfectly clear for our international readers. I put a comma in the sentence about his marriage, so as to set off the clause appropriately. They were married in 1951 (it's not saying that she was Strofolino's niece in 1951). Either ALT would be fine with me. Greg Bard (talk) 19:13, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
