... that the Fordham University Cemetery had to relocate in 1889 to make way for the New York Botanical Garden?Source: "1889, April - After payment of $93,966.25 New York City took title to 26.845 acres of Fordham's east campus, which included the college cemetery; the property was taken by the authority of the state 1884 New Parks Law. Those acres later became part of the New York Botanical Garden. Hi Ergo Sum, review follows: article created 1 January; article exceeds minimum length (I got to about 1600 characters excluding the quotation); article is well written and cited inline throughout to what appear to be reliable sources; I noticed no overly close paraphrasing from the sources cited (the quotation is appropriately attributed); hook is interesting, mentioned in the article and backed up by the source; a QPQ has been carried out. I think there are problems. Doesn’t the name Fordham University date to 1907? The cemetery that became Fordham University Cemetery was founded in 1847, but nothing with that name was founded in 1847. And Fordham University Church was not called that in 1890. This entry needs to be more precise about nomenclature and, especially, make clear that St John's became Fordham. A little rewriting should suffice. Then the text above needs to be rethought, because nothing called the Fordham University Cemetery was moved to make room for the Botanical Garden. The source quoted above seems to refer to Fordham's east campus in 1889, but that sort of writing in the source really doesn’t justify such imprecision on WP. - @Bmclaughlin9: The problem is that when the cemetery was founded, it didn't really have a name. The article makes clear that it was founded on St. John's campus, which is now Fordham. I'm not really sure how to phrase this to drop the Fordham name without really burying the hook. Ergo Sum 15:19, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
- The principal problem is the original article, to which I’ve made some changes. I leave the hook to others, though I suspect anyone following up on the hook will be disappointed to learn that the Botanical Society displaced exactly three graves. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 16:31, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
Pinging Dumelow. I don't think the present hook would really confuse someone reading after thinking about it for a moment, but how about the following modification:
