1965 Moroccan riots
[edit]- ...
that Morocco's General Oufkir became notorious during the Casablanca uprising of 23 March 1965 for machine-gunning civilians from his helicopter?
- Reviewed: Khalidi Library
- Comment: Quick source for hook. Naturally, this would be a good hook on run on March 23, 2015.

- The article is renamed 1965 Moroccan protests, so I changed links and wordings. George Ho (talk) 04:43, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, George Ho. If it's alright with you I would like to use a more specific name, with a focus especially on including "23 March". By the way I am hoping someone will review this article before March 23, 2015. salaam, groupuscule (talk) 17:45, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
- Full review needed, hopefully well before March 23. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:56, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- Aww, I'm a day late to this, sorry. The article is long enough, and was created within the timeframe for DYK eligibility. The source material seem mostly to be in French and/or offline, so I'm assuming good faith that all of the material is supported by the cited references. Also assuming AGF on plagiarism issues. The only problem I see is that the the assertion in the hook that General Oufkir became notorious for firing on the protestors. That he fired on them from a helicopter is supported, but there is no cited statement that he became notorious for such an act. It is slightly implied in the article, but needs to be stated directly.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 15:06, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- By Georges, you're right! Although I'm pretty sure the statement is true, no one reference is good enough to demonstrate it. And it's a vague claim, anyway, to be honest. Maybe we could improve two aspects at once with a such as like:
- Alt1 ... that on March 30, 1965, following the March 23 uprising, King Hassan II categorically wished illiteracy upon Moroccan intellectuals?
- Sources for this claim are already given in the article and the King's words are pretty unambiguous. Web searching "hassan ii 1965 better illiterate" (etc.) turns up many more hits, such as this one from Al Jazeera. Many more sources pop up if you search for his original words in French. (Example of a good one.) Or maybe you have other ideas about factoids to highlight? Thank you for reviewing; and for reviewing carefully. salaam, groupuscule (talk) 17:26, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Approved for ALT 1.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 17:35, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- groupuscule, since you've added March 30 to the hook, and since March 23 has passed us by, I'm going to be WP:BOLD and move this to the special occasion holding area for March 30 to catch the 50th anniversary of that day. If you'd rather it not be saved for that exact day, I'm happy to move it back. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:51, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- That's perfect, BlueMoonset, a happy ending for the hook, if not the Morrocan intellectuals. Thanks again to 3f6 for the review. groupuscule (talk) 01:48, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
