Moved to mainspace by ComputerJA (talk). Self-nominated at 20:39, 2 April 2017 (UTC).
- Article is new, sufficiently long with adequate references and neutral language, hook is interesting and cited inline. Earwig check returned similarities only on names. QPQ done. Good to go. jojo@nthony (talk) 08:41, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- Returning this promoted hook to the nomination area for further discussion of the hook, as per discussion at the DYK discussion page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:33, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- This ALT1 hook was proposed by Yoninah over concerns about this article being a BLP and the necessity of not emphasizing negative aspects.
- Returning this promoted hook to the nomination area for further discussion of the hook, as per discussion at the DYK discussion page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:33, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- ALT1:
... that Elvis González Valencia has 17 siblings, giving rise to their clan's hometown nickname after a local squirrel that is especially fertile?Yoninah (talk) 21:08, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
- I have now expanded the article on the ground squirrel so as to make this a two article hook, so I propose ALT2
- ALT2:
... that Elvis González Valencia has 17 siblings, giving rise to their clan nickname "Cuinis", referring to a prolific local ground squirrel?
- I have reviewed Ed Krupp and have added my name to the credits. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:38, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- New reviewer needed to review the new ground squirrel article and the joint ALT2 hook as it relates to both articles; striking the others. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:11, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Cwmhiraeth: are you able to add something to the article about the squirrel's fecundity? Or do you want to use these sources from the Elvis González Valencia page: [2], [3]? Yoninah (talk) 14:26, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- I looked for information on the animal's breeding habits but found practically nothing. Ref 2 you give is unhelpful and ref 3 produces "El sobrenombre de esta familia se debe a una ardilla de la zona a la que los lugareños conocen como “cuiniki”, su particularidad es que en cada parto suelen tener de 12 a 14 crías." "The nickname of this family is due to a squirrel in the area that the locals know as "cuiniki", its peculiarity is that in each birth usually have 12 to 14 offspring." I would think this an adequate source for the origin of the nickname but not for the number of offspring in a litter. My "Best" and most comprehensive source [4] doesn't mention breeding habits and I guess that is because they are scarcely known. However, several sources mention the large swings in population numbers and that implies the production of large numbers of offspring when conditions are favourable (like lemmings). Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:23, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Cwmhiraeth: so what do you suggest doing about the hook? Yoninah (talk) 18:03, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

- ALT3:
... that Elvis González Valencia has 17 siblings, giving rise to their clan nickname "Cuinis", referring to a ground squirrel found locally?
- @Yoninah: I would have thought ALT2 was probably OK or you could use ALT3, or you could go with something completely else and I could nominate my article separately. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:30, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
- Well, I can't be the one to review this, since I suggested the hook direction. Since we don't have a scientific source for the fertility rate, I suggest going with ALT3. Calling on another reviewer to complete this review. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 18:41, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
- Tropical ground squirrel was 5x expanded on 14 April and added to this DYK nom on 15 so falls within the range. Inline sources provided for it being called "Cuinique". Also, inline sources provided for nicknameing Elvis González Valencia's clan to "Cuinis". We can mention "Mexican drug-lord" to make hook more effective as many may not know him. - Vivvt (Talk) 09:44, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

Returned from prep for BLP violation in wording. See discussion at WT:DYK. A new hook has been proposed for the first article only:
- ALT4: ... that U.S. citizens are prohibited from conducting business transactions with Elvis González Valencia? Yoninah (talk) 17:08, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
- I didn't propose this hook, so I'll review it. The hook does not reflect negatively on a BLP, and the hook ref is verified and cited inline. I changed "engaging in" to "conducting" to remove it from the source. There is one fair use image in the article. Rest of review per Tachs. ALT4 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 19:49, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
- Note: removed no-longer-needed DYKmake templates for second (squirrel) article that had been used in a couple of the earlier hooks. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:01, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
