Dream Team (pornographic film)

[edit]

Created/expanded by George Ho (talk). Self nom at 22:20, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Recent enough, long enough. I agree that the hooks are too long. There's some English work that needs doing. I'm not sure how to handle it - I think it may be best to leave comments in the text rather than go through each one here. Some copyediting I can do but some I can't as I'm not familiar with the film. The image is fair use and tagged appropriately. References are fine - shame there's only one academic source but I expect this isn't an area that has been written about in much detail. I haven't checked the hooks against references as I think they are too long - can you come up with snappier hooks? Secretlondon (talk) 21:56, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
I've done the copyediting - we just need the hooks now. Secretlondon (talk) 22:12, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Shortened hooks (from Secretlondon (talk)):
ALT1a:... that the basement scene from the gay pornographic film Dream Team was inspired by the director's own basement?
ALT2a:... that gay pornographic film Dream Team is an allegory of small-town closeted behavior and later sexual liberation?

Duh! That would be all I can come up with. Nevertheless, there is one, but I don't know if a promoter will like the below hook more than above ones:

ALT3: ... that a reviewer compared Rick Chase's performance in gay pornographic film Dream Team to Farley Granger?

Actually, I like ALT2a more. However, that would be up to either you Secretlondon or a promoter. --George Ho (talk) 01:13, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

I can't approve the new hooks as I wrote them. I've left a note that someone needs to. ALT3 seems to say that Farley Granger starred in the film. It needs to lose the 's at the end.Secretlondon (talk) 01:52, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
As said, I guess we need a new reviewer then, as ALTs have been done already. Copyediting is already done. We'll wait... --George Ho (talk) 02:14, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
Pulling out "fixed" template for that delete 's, since it looks just like an AGF approval tick, and we want someone to come in and review the new hooks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:20, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Article approved, but only hook ALT1a is approved with it. Other hooks might be possible if further revisions are attempted, but you'll want to do it soon since this nomination is likely to be promoted fairly quickly, as it's from July and we're into September now. The problems with the remaining hooks were as follows:
  • Original hook: borderline too long, and Douglas's coming of age is not sourced. If the source was added after that sentence in the article, and the basketball phrase was dropped so the revised hook simply read "was inspired by the coming-of-age of writer and director Jerry Douglas", I think it would be interesting.
  • ALT1: quite long, and ALT1a does it better
  • ALT2: quite long, and "observed differences" is not interesting
  • ALT2a: "allegory" is not sourced after the sentence in which is is mentioned, which is a requirement. The later source gives the allegory as being gay liberation, not sexual liberation, and doesn't bring in small-town closeted behavior into the allegory so it can't be conflated in the hook; also, I think you need to ascribe it to something. For example, "... has been described an allegory of gay liberation? (This would require an inline source immediately after the "allegory" sentence, which should be easy enough; it's ref 9.)
  • ALT3: the comparison was of Chase's look, resembling Granger, not in his performance. Hook not supported by sources.

ALT2b:... that a reviewer called the gay pornographic film Dream Team an allegory of gay liberation?
I hope it's quick and good enough --George Ho (talk) 17:09, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Adding ALT2b to ALT1a as an approved hook. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:45, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
