Dick Joy

[edit]
  • Comment: At a time when network radio was a growing -- but already important -- mass medium in the United States, being the youngest announcer at one of the major networks was a significant accomplishment.

Created by Teblick (talk). Self nominated at 21:54, 14 June 2014 (UTC).

  • New enough (created 13 June) and long enough (2673 characters)
  • Interesting hook and within limit (<200 characters)
  • QPQ not needed
  • Hook checks out with ref 3
  • Neutral tone has been used
  • No dablinks
  • No plagiarism or close paraphrasing detected
  • A blog source has been used, they are not considered reliable
Replace the blog source with reliable source. You may want to add information about his death which is there in the 3rd ref. You may also wish to add info about the Sunday desk.--Skr15081997 (talk) 14:30, 27 June 2014 (UTC)
  • Issues have been resolved. Good to go now.--Skr15081997 (talk) 05:51, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
  • While the source does say that at age 21, Dick Joy was the youngest staff announcer in CBS Radio history, it sounds like "youngest as of that time". As that occurred in 1936, have there been any other youngest announcers since? Yoninah (talk) 23:36, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Comment The source is quite recent, and I believe it to be clearly stating that Joy was the youngest announcer ever. This rings true to me as someone with some knowledge of the subject, as usually radio announcers would be veterans who had worked their way up. Given CBS' last long-form radio program ended in 1982 (and I'm not sure if CBS Radio Mystery Theater even utilized a staff announcer), I think it can be held without reservation that Joy was CBS' youngest staff announcer ever. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 12:51, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
  • Without a source confirming that he is the youngest in CBS radio history, it would be safer to say:
  • ALT1: ... that when he came aboard in 1936, Dick Joy, aged 21, was the youngest staff announcer in CBS Radio history? Yoninah (talk) 18:26, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
  • In the light of the above discussion I have struck the original hook - not because I don't believe it, but because it isn't going to get promoted. Initial review taken on trust. Good to go with ALT1, which checks out with online citation #3. --Storye book (talk) 12:04, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
