Danny Kaleikini, The Kahala Hotel & Resort
( Back to T:TDYK )
( Article history links: )
- ... that Danny Kaleikini (pictured) once worked as a singing hotel busboy in Waikiki, before becoming the headline entertainer at the Kahala Hilton for 28 years? Source: "The Waikiki Sands was a popular place to eat in the 1950s...A young busboy, Danny Kaleikini, sang impromptu at diners' tables." (West Hawaii Today); "Pau hana time for Danny Kaleikini: The beloved entertainer ends a 28-year engagement at the Kahala Hilton Dec. 31" (Honolulu Star-Bulletin, 1994)

- Comment: This is a double nomination, so the reviewer will receive two credits. I have also submitted two QPQs.

- Danny Kaleikini: Article is new, more than long enough, sourced throughout. Singing hotel busboy is cited inline, as is his headlining a Hilton for 28 years. No evidence of copyvio or neutrality problems. 1994 Hawaii election is interesting.
- Kahala Hotel: Also a new article that is long and sourced, neutral, no signs of copyvio or POV. It says "nearly 30 years". Check that the reference matches up and synch up the times in the articles with the hook and I'll check this off.
- Two QPQs are provided. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:55, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: Thank you for the review! Good point about the "28 years" vs. "nearly 30 years". For sure the 28 years is more accurate, as it's clearly documented that his first show was on April 27, 1967, his last show was on December 31, 1994, and then the hotel closed in 1995 for extensive renovations under completely new management. I've changed it everywhere now to say "28 years" for consistency (although the more recent media coverage and marketing from the hotel itself has tended to say "nearly 30 years"...conveniently rounding up).
- On another note, I wanted to ask if you could please take a look at the Kahala Hilton page again? I have now added more content about the controversy over the captive dolphins at the resort, and have tried to keep it as neutral and balanced as possible...but it seemed important to address. (If there are 3 things to know about "The Kahala" besides the fact that it's in Kahala, it's 1) made itself famous as a destination for celebrity guests; 2) Danny Kaleikini; 3) "swim with dolphins" and associated controversy.) - The articles and hook agree, so we're good. As for the porpoises, I think the content is neutral. I renamed it as per WP:CONTROVERSYSECTION, seeing that word in a section header is a pet peeve for me. The section could be expanded, like did the legislature put the resolutions up for votes? But that's unnecessary for DYK. Great job! – Muboshgu (talk) 02:56, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
