Cory Wong
- ... that guitarist Cory Wong (pictured) was mentored by Peruvian guitarist Andrés Prado and drummer Michael Bland? Source: "My guitar teacher and mentor in college was [Andres] Prado. He's a Peruvian legend" Link1, "his longtime mentors from Prince's band, drummer Michael Bland" Link2
- Reviewed: Periodization of Ancient Egypt
- Comment: The first name of Andres Prado is misspelled in the inline-cited source as Andreas. The correct spelling is Andres per this source.

- Comments: Generally all fine. Reviewing this because I'm a big fan of both Wong and Vulfpeck! I think we could squeeze out a slightly more interesting hook. Certainly, Sonny T. can be added to the article alongside Michael Bland (sourced in same article), and the article (and hook) can spell out that these were people in Prince's band. Alternatively, we could go down the hooky hooky route and use the fact that Vulfpeck have the song "Cory Wong"... with a bit of extra content in the article we could have something (silly, but engaging) like:
- Also, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a usable image somewhere, which would be great for both article and DYK. MIDI (talk) 16:43, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @MIDI: thanks for the review. About highlighting Prado and Bland in the article and in hook: listening to the cited podcasts [1], [2], and reading other sources, Wong clearly has a significant affinity for these two and their influence on him, as compared to others. He mentions others in passing, but goes into specifics with Prado and Bland. About Bland and Sonny's Prince connection, I will add it to the article. About 'Speculative ALT' hook, let's think about it. I will ping you after I do more edits, in a day I hope. I added an image, it isn't perfect but I think it's better than (licensed) alternatives. - No probs and no rush—clearly the proposed hook is good to go, but let's look over it again in a bit and see if there's anything else. Not a problem if not! I'll wait for a {{ping}}. MIDI (talk) 14:30, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- @MIDI: I added Prince and a couple of details. I thought about hookier hook, but no! sorry. I prefer the mentor hook with Prado and Bland, it's a bigger part of his bio, and these two definitely top the list of those who shaped him (by some distance I think). The hook may be boring to fans, but I think the average main page reader who is musically inclined would still click to see who Cory is. How about adding Prince to the hook like this, ALT1? - I corrected the spelling from "Andres Prado" to "Andrés Prado" per his biography at these links: [3], [4]. Bammesk (talk) 02:23, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this, but footnote 6, verifying the Michael Bland hook fact, is a dead link. Yoninah (talk) 17:27, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: Hi, I fixed the ref/footnote 6 by going to its archive link, both in the article as well as above (the link right under the original hook). According to This Post on the magazine's facebook page (i.e. the source publisher) their website did move recently on January 9, 2020. I have noticed that not all of the magazine's previously published articles are currently available / redirected / or moved to their new website. So using the archive link is the best fix. Thank you for alerting me. Bammesk (talk) 00:35, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
