Church of St Michael and All Angels, Christchurch

[edit]

Church of St Michael and All Angels in 2011

  • Comment: For a change, here's a Category I heritage building that's still standing after the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. And if it's not obvious to reviewers, the reason that it is still standing is that it was built from timber, which is more flexible and often fares better in earthquakes than stone or unreinforced masonry.

  • Comment: Unfortunately sources only support "only Anglican." Also, this mighty be catchier:
ALT 1: ... that an 1869 decision to use earthquake-resistant timber construction led to St Michael's Church (pictured) being the only Christchurch Central City Anglican church in use after the 2011 earthquake?

Thanks for the review. ALT1 is nice and catchy. The 'only Anglican' bit is fine. Schwede66 18:46, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
