Burmomyrma rossi fossil

  • ... that the extinct ant Burmomyrma rossi (pictured) was missing its head when described?

  • Length, hook, date ok, couldn't access ref but tick as AGF. Photo on Commons. But shouldn't the hook say 'discovered' instead of described? --Soman (talk) 04:02, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
  • There is no indication in the type paper as to whether the holotype was originally whole when collected, and subsequently lost the head during polishing of the amber, or if the head was already gone when the amber was collected. Thus, I went with the verifiable wording, which is when being described in the type paper, the head as gone. --Kevmin § 04:53, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
