Template:Article pronouns/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template may be included on the talk pages of biographical articles and articles related to an individual in cases where the associated person's gender might be questioned to alert other editors that the indicated personal pronouns are used.

Talk page usage

[edit]

This template is descriptive, not prescriptive; that is, it follows the style already in use at the article. If the article pronoun usage changes, then the template should be adjusted to follow suit.

{{Article pronouns|she|her|hers|source=text link}}

This template categorizes pages into one of five categories, depending on the value of param 1, and corresponding to the values "he", "she", "they", "none", and "other" (and aliases of these values). A container category is at Category:Articles tagged for gendered pronoun usage.

Examples

[edit]
  • {{Article pronouns|she|her|hers|source=[[Leslie Feinberg#Pronoun usage|Leslie Feinberg]]}} generates:

You can easily reference a discussion on the Talk page using the |source= param with template {{slink}}:

  • {{Article pronouns|no pronouns|source={{slink||Pronoun usage}}}}

For an example of this usage, see Talk:Public Universal Friend.

Parameters

[edit]

Three positional and one named parameters; the first positional parameter is required.

  • 1. a pronoun (required), normally, the subject pronoun (he, she, they, none, etc.)
  • 2. a pronoun (optional), normally, the object pronoun (him, her, them...)
  • 3. a pronoun (optional), normally, the possessive pronoun (his, her, their...)
  • source (optional) identifies the source where pronoun choices may be verified
  • related (optional) if = "yes", alters the text 'biographical article' to 'article related to an individual'

Note: This specifies what pronouns are used in the article. Sometimes, an individual uses two sets of pronouns, for example, she/her and they/them; if the article just uses she/her, then the template should match that. If the article uses both sets, the template can be used twice, one for each set of pronouns used in the article.

Usage note

[edit]

Parameters are usually given in doublets or triplets:

You can indicate that no pronouns are used in the article, or that they are avoided as much as feasible:
