Dates
[edit]I would like to change the hardcoded dates to use the Template:Start date. This would mean that all dates would be longform (or, really, any format you have set in your preferences. Discussion? Fantailfan (talk) 16:48, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

- ... that on the final date of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, David Bowie (pictured) said it was "the last show that we'll ever do"? Source: [1] and many others)

... that the Spiders from Mars were unsure about their stage clothes for the Ziggy Stardust Tour (David Bowie pictured) until they realised it would attract female fans?Source: "That’s what I remember: how uncomfortable they felt in their stage clothes. But when they realized what it did for the birds . . . The girls were going crazy for them, because they looked like nobody else. So within a couple of days it was, “I’m going to wear the red ones tonight." (David Bowie, [2])

- Substantial coverage of complex topic, on good sources, offline sources accepted AGF, co copyvio obvious. I prefer the original hook. The image is licensed and looking unusual enough to create interest. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:39, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Sourcing
[edit]Morning @Ritchie333: I hope you're well. Just wondering if you could have a look at the sourcing in the "Personnel" and "Songs" sections? I can't see cites for many of the people on the tour, and for the assertion that the listed songs were played as part of the sets. This is due to run at DYK in a couple of days, but we can delay that if you need more time. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 09:39, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- Amakuru, This is all cited to bowiewonderworld.com, as noted in the article (though not using citation templates). As for whether you trust that to be accurate or not, who knows. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:52, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
In 1972 Bowie flew from Tokio to New York to see Elvis?
[edit]Is it true that Bowie made a break on the tour in Japan to see Elvis in New York in June 1972? 80.110.26.134 (talk) 16:42, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
- No. The Japanese leg of the tour was in 1973. In June 1972, the Spiders were still playing gigs like the Friars Aylesbury. All reliable sources about Bowie said he hated flying (at least during this period) and wouldn't have got on a plane under any circumstances. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:29, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
Pianists
[edit]There seems to be some confusion about the piano players on the tour.
Most sources agree that Bowie wanted Rick Wakeman to be part of the Spiders From Mars, and he turned the offer down to join Yes instead, so they were stuck for a regular keyboardist for a while until Mike Garson joined. Sources are a bit unsure about exactly who played piano up until Garson joined, and I'm not sure the early gigs had any regular pianists at all. Zmbro, you've got the best collection of sources, can you expand on this? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:08, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ritchie333 Sorry for the late reply Ritchie! According to Nicholas Pegg there was Nicky Graham from February 10 to July 15, 1972; Matthew Fisher on August 19 & 20, and Robin Lumley from August 27 to September 7. Kevin Cann says Graham played until mid-August until being fired by Defries and replaced by Fisher for the two dates. But he confirms Lumley for the other dates before Garson stepped in. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 15:53, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
