Change spelling to Zhongli
[edit]Now that Hanyu Pinyin is the official romanization system of the ROC, the government has directed that all place names below the County/Municipality level be spelled in Hanyu Pinyin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bubbha (talk • contribs) 04:19, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- Although Hanyu Pinyin may be the official romanization, there are still places that keep the old spelling (the most prominent being Taipei). Other examples include Kaohsiung, Taichung, Hsinchu, etc. It doesn't necessarily mean you start changing everything; the ones that are already established (which I would argue that Jhongli is fairly established) need to be kept that way. Just my two cents. -Multivariable (talk) 05:42, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Change spelling to Jhongli
[edit]Jhongli is official name in Taiwan.see official wedsite. Our Jhongli citizen still called Jhongli.
Spelling again
[edit]I have changed the name of the city in the text for consistency. I am not the right editor to determine what is the correct spelling to use, but given "Zhongli" is the name in the title, I have used that. If in future a different spelling is chosen, the editor making the change should ensure that all occurrences of the City name use the same spelling.Noid83 (talk) 09:53, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
More on spelling
[edit]Regarding the ongoing ping-pong over spellings of Zhongli/Jhongli, and the claim that 'most government/unofficial sources refer to the city as "Jhongli,"' Google searches show the following:
Domain | Zhongli hit count | Jhongli hit count |
---|---|---|
.tw (all Taiwan) | 72,500 | 43,100 |
.gov.tw (Taiwan gov't sites) | 14,300 | 16,700 |
Thus, Jhongli is slightly more popular on government sites, but Zhongli is clearly more popular throughout Taiwan web sites in general, according to Google.
