Al Jazeera Arabic & poor references
[edit]Someone chose the least possibly balanced or reliable reference for this article: Al Jazeera Arabic. (see:Al Jazeera controversies and criticism). The reference, anyways, is dead.
I have noticed that most of these references, additionally, don't seem too balanced either. Among these titles are:
- "Gaza Family recounts day of Horror"
- "Amid Dust and Death, a family's story speaks for the Terror of war"
- "The Smell of Death"
- "Blocking the Truth of the Gaza War"
- "Gaza:Palestinian family mourns 48 dead"
- "What led to IDF bombing house full of civilians during Gaza War?"
Really, Wiki! What a neutral, unbiased article! Dunutubble (talk) 18:18, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- Al Jazeera is a reliable source. See WP:RSP. We include all significant views, we dont claim any one is "neutral". nableezy - 19:38, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- I don't deny that Al Jazeera English is reliable. I trust that source and use it regularly as a reference. It has helped me several times. I'm talking about the Arabic version (Al Jazeera Arabic), which is generally considered to be the exact opposite of the English form. RSP only refers to the English version. Dunutubble (talk) 22:33, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- RSP says Al Jazeera is considered a generally reliable news organization. Editors perceive Al Jazeera English (and Aljazeera.com) to be more reliable than Al Jazeera's Arabic-language news reporting. Some editors say that Al Jazeera, particularly its Arabic-language media, is a partisan source with respect to the Arab–Israeli conflict. But reliable for both. Many sources are biased, and Israeli news sources are used regularly in this topic area. If this article is missing some other reliably sourced perspective, add it. nableezy - 22:44, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Zeitoun incident → Zeitoun killings – "Zeitoun incident" does not appear to be the WP:COMMONNAME (the single, obvious name that is demonstrably the most frequently used for the topic by a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources).
The proposed new name, "Zeitoun killings", which also appears in reliable sources (The Guardian, NYT), is not the WP:COMMONNAME either.
In the absence of the true WP:COMMONNAME we should have a non-judgmental descriptive title (WP:NDESC). For events, a descriptive title means that the "what" part of the name, or the WP:DESCRIPTOR, needs to be specific and neutral. Not entirely non-specific like "incident". The article discusses the killings that took place in Zeitoun. The word "killing" is neutral when used in the article, and would also be neutral in the title.
"Killings" is therefore recommended under Wikipedia:Naming conventions (violence and deaths). It says that, for an article about particular, discrete, killings, when killings of peple by other people occur, and there is no conviction or convictions, the descriptor should be "killings". —Alalch E. 18:58, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

- Support as a move towards an actual description. "Incident" is a fairly meaningless word that one would only typically use when it forms part of some sort of common name. Absent that, it just sounds euphemistic. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:21, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support This event does not have a common name, and "killings" seems more apt. Hemiauchenia (talk) 19:45, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support for clarity. GenQuest "scribble" 06:05, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
