Wild-lime or Lime prickly-ash, Zanthoxylum fagara, is a small to medium sized tree or large shrub native to south Florida, and the Caribbean. The trunk is generally rough with gray bark and grows to about 10 inches in diameter. The wood tends to be desired for making furniture Irregularly-shaped branches contain hooked spines with 3-4 inch Leaves that when crushed, the have a lime-like aroma. Has a high drought tolerance and provides food and cover for native wildlife. Larval host plant for giant swallowtail butterflies Papilio cresphontes and Schaus' swallowtail butterflies.Heraclides aristodemus Although naturally, shade allows Wild- Lime to germinate, and grow as an understory tree. Plants can grow in the full sun and make a nice multi-trunked small patio tree.
