The article says that Zane was granted 1800 acres by Congress in 1795 at the location of Zanesfield. It references Martzloff, Clement L. (1905). "Zane's Trace". Ohio Archaeological and Historical Publications. 13: 324., who cites his source as Wiseman, C.M.L. (1901). Pioneer Period and Pioneer People of Fairfield County. F.J. Heer Printing Co. p. 15..

Knepper, George W. (2002). The Official Ohio Lands Book (PDF). The Auditor of the State of Ohio. pp. 52–53. {{cite book}}: External link in |publisher= (help) and Peters, William E. (1918). Ohio Lands and Their Subdivisions. W.E. Peters. pp. 336–339. both state that Zane was awarded three sections of land (about 1920 acres) by Congress by act of April 3, 1802, 6 Stat. 46, and that on August 28, 1806, patents were issued for three sections in Champaign County. Peters further stresses on page 336 that Zane had purchased the Logan County 1800 acres from the federal government in 1795.

Laws of the United States of a Local or Temporary Character. p. 25. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |Publisher= ignored (|publisher= suggested) (help); Unknown parameter |Year= ignored (|year= suggested) (help) shows the 1802 Champaign County grant by congress, but no land grant to Zane in 1795.

Conclusion: Zane purchased the Logan County land. Martzloff and Wiseman were mistaken about the Logan county 1800 acres Zane actually purchased in 1795, and confused them with the grant of 1920 acres in Champaign County by Congress in 1802.
