Is this page (stuartlivingston.com/about-me) considered a reliable source? BestDaysofMusic (talk) 01:36, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm I'm not certain but I think it is similar to the kind of resume sources that we sometimes use with a 'better source needed' tag until we get something better. - adamstom97 (talk) 02:17, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So, i can use it? BestDaysofMusic (talk) 18:12, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I was doing some digging into this series' crew a few days ago and compiled several social media posts of those involved, but most aren't verified accounts. To note, the tweet for one of the writers listed in the draft currently is unverified directly, but is useable as the writer affirmed the validity of it in a response. To break it down, in September, Liza Singer (a storyboard artist/revisionist on DC's series Harley Quinn and DC Super Hero Girls) announced on Twitter that she joined Marvel Studios as a director (cite). After D+ Day, Singer retweeted the official announcement tweet and confirmed she was involved in Freshman Year. (cite). Singer posted on her Instagram that she had been directing this series for the past few months. (cite). There is a Reddit post compiling social media posters of various crew members for this series. That Reddit post we obviously can't use, but to just lay out the crew's posts, which I've looked over. We have: Li Cree, who confirmed they would start as a storyboard artist on the series in January last month (cite); Cole Harrington, also confirmed he was storyboarding. (cite); Michal Lewis, also confirmed he was storyboarding on the series. (cite). Character designers include: Leonardo Romero (cite); Paolo Rivera (cite); Julen Urrutia, who also confirmed Romero and Rivera (cite); and Mauricio Leone, who states visual design artist. (cite). Eric Bravo is Script/Records Coordinator. (cite). Storyboard artists include Chris Pianka, whose Twitter bio states he works for "Marvel Studios Animation". (cite); Meg Syverud. (cite); and Jess Traugott (cite), who started on Nov. 8 at Marvel. (cite). Ally Sarge is production coordinator. (cite). Stu Livingston also retweeted the announcement, but nothing more. (cite). I did shoot ComicBook.com a wishful email of this, but who knows if any sites will pick up on it. I'm not sure how much of this is necessary here, or if there would be anything preventing the most necessary from being included. Up for discussion on these all. Trailblazer101 (talk) 05:35, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and Nic Gregory confirmed he's an artist at Marvel Studios in his Instagram bio, and posted he was working on this series. (cite). Trailblazer101 (talk) 05:57, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for finding all of this, but I don't see how any of these people need to be mentioned on the page given their roles. They are all performing duties that usually don't require attaching a name to them. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:03, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not canon to MCU?

[edit]

From what’s been revealed at SDCC, it’s pretty obvious this isn’t set in the MCU Earth-616. Specifically the presence of multiple characters that either don’t exist (yet?) in 616 like Norman in a parody of the Tony meetup (as hinted at by Dafoe’s line about oscorp in NWH) or ones that Holland meets in a movie after Civil War (which is what this was supposedly a prequel to), such as Strange (who he meets in Infinity War. There’s also been an email sent out by Disney staff of the description which indicates it’s in the MCU, but I think we should disregard this and say in the article it’s set in an alternate reality close to the MCU. Hopefully one of the producers on this show clears it up. MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 21:15, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's pretty clear, I've seen many outlets assume it, but I've seen many others ignore the inconsistencies or just be confused by them. I'd say we remove connections such as its inclusion in Spider-Man: Homecoming as a prequel, while still not outright saying it isn't canon, which I think is as neutral as we can be, not confirming anything one way or the other. —El Millo (talk) 21:30, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When you say "canon to the MCU", do you mean the franchise (from a real-world perspective) or Earth-616 (from an in-universe perspective)? Charlie Cox as Daredevil is really the only thing keeping me from saying that this isn't part of the MCU franchise, but as I have seen several commentators suggest, this probably isn't "Earth-616" MCU. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:05, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not canon to Earth-616 MCU. Considering what we’ve seen has the Tony/Peter meet with Norman instead of Tony in Civil War pan out strongly indicates it’s part of the broader MCU multiverse. My hope is they designate this as say Earth-615 or something given it’s similar nature and slight differences from the Sacred Timeline/616. MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 23:54, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) We can use these sources to support this series likely not being canon: [1] [2] [3]. It would probably be a step too far (WP:OR) to say for sure that's set in an alternate universe in the multiverse. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:55, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I meant canon to Earth-616 from an in-universe perspective, in the way it had been marketed as a prequel to Homecoming and Civil War. —El Millo (talk) 00:10, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we should be talking about "canon" here, we have sources to support it not being set on Earth-616 that we can use but we shouldn't be suggesting that it isn't part of the MCU unless Marvel Studios says it isn't. Sounds likes most (if not all) of the new animated shows are just going to be in the same boat as What If...? as far as using the multiverse. - adamstom97 (talk) 02:26, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Canon is just the word MarioProtIV happened to use in the title, we all seem to be referring to it simply not being set on Earth-616. —El Millo (talk) 02:34, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the shiw had a similar (but shorter) journey than The Batman, starting development as an MCU series but chamging course into its own thing in the middle of pre-production. BestDaysofMusic (talk) 05:09, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like this series is part of the MCU franchise (from a real-world perspective) but isn't set in Earth-199999/616. So all animated series so far don't take place in the main MCU. — SirDot (talk) 05:46, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like all the Marvel Studios animated shows are not set in the main 616/199999 universe. - Richiekim (talk) 17:04, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's probably a situation where it's not a core MCU series but it's MCU-adjacent like What If? and Marvel Zombies are going for. That seems to be the pattern with all the animated projects
It's more than likely a branched reality based off of the MCU since it's already been confirmed that Norman Osborn is essentiallly occupying the role Tony Stark did for 616-Peter and they're even recreating Peter's introduction scene from Civil War with him instead. That's likely why they still refer to it as an MCU series even if it's not set in the MCU as we know it RebelYasha (talk) 19:39, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I think the most we can say is The series is believed to not be set in the primary MCU continuity. We should wait for more solid confirmation before making the jump to multiverses and What Ifs. InfiniteNexus (talk) 21:07, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm treating this as an MCU television series that is simply not set in the main MCU continuity. Best to wait until those that are involved respond to the canonicity debate (not really a debate, it's 100% non-canon). — SirDot (talk) 21:20, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Brad Winderbaum has now confirmed that the series is set in the multiverse. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:24, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Season articles

[edit]

This is an extremely long lead time on this, given this isn't even in the mainspace yet, but what do we do for (potential) season articles? In my mind "Spider-Man: Freshman Year" becomes the "season 1" article, and then we have another season article of "Spider-Man: Sophomore Year" and then hopefully an official name for the entire series to rename this article as it currently is. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:05, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've been thinking about this too. It depends a little on if we do get another name that refers to the whole series. I also wasn't sure if this would qualify as an Avatar: The Legend of Aang/Korra situation where the names of the seasons are not included in the season article's titles, such as The Legend of Korra (season 1). - adamstom97 (talk) 23:16, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking more reality series based, where those shows have various subtitles for each season. But that still leaves us with what the "main" article would be called. Just a very long thing to ponder about... - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:08, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why not just treat this as two separate miniseries and have Spider-Man: Freshman Year be for season 1 and Spider-Man: Sophomore Year be for season 2, and no "overall series" article? Kind of like Daredevil (TV series) vs. Daredevil: Born Again. InfiniteNexus (talk) 02:48, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If they are treating it as a second season then we should match them, even if it does end up causing us issues with the title. - adamstom97 (talk) 08:47, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The use explicitly of "season" is the wrench in the matter. Otherwise that would be a possibility. And there likely will be greater connections between the two like seasons, unlike miniseries tend to be. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:50, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully we will get a title for the series as a whole. If not, we may end up with something like "Spider-Man: Freshman Year" [series article], "Spider-Man: Freshman Year (season 1)" [first season article], and "Spider-Man: Sophomore Year" [second season article]. Or, we could use the two titles for season articles and then call the series article "Spider-Man (2024 TV series)"? - adamstom97 (talk) 22:35, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking along the same lines with this, where Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Spider-Man: Sophomore Year are both their own season articles and the overall series article as Adam suggested above, although I also feel that we would need more sources to refer to that "Spider-Man (2024 TV series)" wording for this, unless we do get an overall series title to go after. If not, the titles Adam suggested seem to be the more suitable route. Trailblazer101 (talk) 02:58, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I personally felt Spider-Man: High School Years was a good name, but obviously that's of my own making and in no way official beyond it accurately describing what we know for these first two seasons. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 21:09, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It could be that commentators start calling it something like that closer to the time which we could use as a COMMONNAME. If not, I think we could get away with "Spider-Man (2024 TV series)" without it being an actual COMMONNAME if there is no suitable alternative, since it would be a reasonably accurate description. We would just have to get the wording right in the lead. Obviously this is all still far off, but as far as planning for a split goes it sounds like we can aim to have two season articles named Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Spider-Man: Sophomore Year (I think a draft has already been made for the latter, a bit early but we could update it to match this plan). - adamstom97 (talk) 23:42, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why are we getting crazy over this. Its not like this is the first time it happened. Remember? Avengers Assemble changed its name for seasons 3, 4, and 5, and we didn't made entirely new pages for those seasons as if they were new shows. BestDaysofMusic (talk) 13:56, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think many of us here have seen that show. But according to the series article, it looks like there was no subtitle for the first two seasons, and then they added subtitles for the subsequent seasons. That is not the case here. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:40, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Move to mainspace?

[edit]

How is everyone feeling? Seeing as the series (in theory) is still planned to release this year, coupled with the new info that Cox did his voice recording way back in 2021, I think with the refs we have as well this passes WP:GNG and WP:NFTV and could be moved. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 00:11, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I support the move given there seems to be enough work in animation, recording, and now composing, especially with the promo art they've shown and this supposedly still set for release later this year. We have enough sources that I don't this would be an issue. Trailblazer101 (talk) 03:12, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also happy to make the move. - adamstom97 (talk) 07:34, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give the draft a once over and proceed with the move. Thanks all. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:17, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
